- I was surprised to find out that To Kill A Mockingbird author Harper Lee is still alive. I was surprised to find out that was the only book she’s ever written. I was very surprised to learn that she earns over $9,000 a day ($3.3 million annually) off royalties from her only piece of literary art. When I was in high school, I was surprised to learn that the actual title of the book was To Kill A Mockingbird and not Tequila Mockingbird like I thought everyone was saying.
- Most politicians don’t like to apologize or take responsibility, and they usually suffer for it. But those that do, like Reagan for Iran-Contra and Kennedy with the Bay of Pigs, the public was fairly quick to forgive and move on. Gov Chris Christie gave himself to the media for two hours apologizing and taking responsibility for what occurred and then offered a face-to-face apology to Mayor Sokolich. It doesn’t matter if all of this was planned or orchestrated by Christie and his advisers, but it does mean he’ll be quickly forgiven and addressing it in this fashion makes it disappear sooner than later. I’m sure he’ll survive it, and hope he does, because he’s one of the best things going for the Republicans and this country.
- When I was in high school one had to choose to play in the band or football, students were unable to do both. Over time high schoolers got to do both, which bothered me, but I warmed up to it since in high school one shouldn’t have to limit any talents or participation. Yesterday I learned that a University of Texas student was able to do be on the football team and play in the band , and I don’t feel that’s okay in college as that’s when you have to start prioritizing life choices. Perhaps that’s one reason the team wasn’t winning football games like they use to. And yes, I understand he never got much playing time and is a walkon. - I like that Johnny Manziel wrote a good-bye letter to Aggieland, and it’s something all major stars of a college program should do when leaving early. But I can’t help but think it was put together by his new management group to show that he’s matured to help his draft status considering his off the field antics.
