Busy night at GeedingManor as my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew all spent the night. I was surprised that the about to be third grader’s bedtime is normally 7:30 PM.
I really like how Americans are getting into games the U.S. World Cup team plays even if they aren’t that into soccer. It’s really neat seeing everyone in this country cheering for one specific team at one specific time. The Olympics come close, but since there are so many events, you really don’t get the whole “everyone is doing what I’m doing right now” moment. I wonder how much social media has helped with all of this.
David Letterman had the most eloquent interview with the latest Medal of Honor recipient. The Medal of Honor actually is displayed a bit different on a Marine’s uniform because of the collar, you don’t see much of the ribbon.

The Supreme Court ruled against the Obama Administration’s ability to make recess appointments when Congress explicitly said it was not in recess. It was the proper decision because Obama was making appointments when congress was on a break instead of an actual recess; however, it was a bit of political cat and mouse as the Republicans was holding very brief sessions every three days so not to go into an actual recess to prevent appointments. But the one thing that stood out to me when watching the CBS Evening News was the number of recess appointments made by Obama and his two predecessors – Obama has made 32 in his five-plus years in office, George W. Bush made 171 such appointments over two terms and President Bill Clinton filled 139.
