Online Book Written in Real Time

This is an interesting concept, but I’d think most folks would just rather have the finished product.

At 9am, Wednesday 12th September (BST), Silvia Hartmann began writing the first words of her new fantasy fiction novel “The Dragon Lords” and in doing so hopes to become the world’s first author to pen a book whilst letting readers see every word being typed.

With the rise of eBooks and print-on-demand paperbacks, many authors are now using the web to bypass traditional publishing houses in favour of self-publishing. This project, known as “The Naked Writer”, aims to go one step further and give fans the chance to not only see the manuscript being typed, but to also comment on the storyline and provide feedback as the novel develops.

Silvia Hartmann said, “This is an amazing opportunity for me as an author to push the boundaries of the author/reader relationship. It will be amazing to write knowing that people will be viewing each word, paragraph and chapter, each backspace as I go along! Some authors plan their manuscripts in advance, but my stories tend to have a life of their own and I look forward to seeing what unfolds with everybody else!”

At first, I thought, "What does she mean? A lot of authors blog their books and show them to the world in progress." Three of my almost four books have been blogged first <a href="http://(http://bit.ly/theservingchurch” target=”_blank”>(http://bit.ly/theservingchurch is three or four chapters from done).

Then I noticed she was using some sort of real-time "watch me type" mechanism. That might be new.
