Bag of Randomness for Tuesday, July 11, 2023

  • I made an online Whataburger order yesterday for two kid meals. The first meal was a cheeseburger. I tried to add grilled onions but it wasn’t an option, though grilled jalapenos were. The second meal was a grilled cheese. Oddly, grilled onions (and jalapenos) were an option. Silly Whataburger.
  • Harrison Ford Breaks A 24-Year Disney Record With Indiana Jones 5
    • What also makes Ford fronting the film unique is that, at 80, he’s currently the oldest actor to play the lead role in a Disney film, a record he broke 24 years on from the previous winner.
    • In nabbing this title, Ford only beat the previous record holder Richard Farnsworth by a year. Farnsworth was 79 when he played the title role in David Lynch’s The Straight Story.

  • BaptistNews.com – Oklahoma superintendent of schools says Tulsa Race Massacre wasn’t due to the color of anyone’s skin
    • It’s OK to teach Oklahoma schoolchildren about the Tulsa Race Massacre, just don’t tell them it was motivated by the color of anyone’s skin, the state superintendent of schools said at a July 6 forum.
    • The conservative Republican was asked how teaching about the 1921 murder of hundreds of Black citizens of Tulsa doesn’t violate his ban on teaching what he calls Critical Race Theory.
    • “I would never tell a kid that because of your race, because of the color of your skin, or your gender or anything like that, you are less of a person or are inherently racist. That doesn’t mean you don’t judge the actions of individuals. Oh, you can. Absolutely, historically, you should. ‘This was right. This was wrong. They did this for this reason.’ But to say it was inherent in that because of their skin is where I say that is Critical Race Theory. You’re saying that race defines a person.”
    • By historical fact, residents of the Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa — dubbed the “Black Wall Street” — were murdered by armed white vigilantes precisely because of the color of their skin.
  • Why Does Coke At McDonald’s Taste Different?
    • If you’ve ever debated someone over whether or not the Coca-Cola served at McDonald’s tastes different than the Coke did at other places, you’re not crazy. McDonald’s Coke has a unique flavor, and some say it’s better than canned Coke or Coke from other restaurants.
