I don’t know why I did it, I guess I got caught up in the moment, but I actually called The TICKET on Friday and somehow got on air. The phone rang one time and someone picked up, and then my heart just started to pound and my throat got dry. I was asked my question and was told to hold on. When I got on the air I asked them to compare the Nolan/JD relationship with Jimmy/Jerry and then asked Junior to rank the Jacksons starting with Keith, Bo, Reggie, Andrew, and Michael. They chuckled and Junior said he would do me a favor and rank them the next week. You can hear me starting around the 5:09 mark.
I watched the ‘Breaking Bad’ finale for a second time and I’m not buying the dream theory. But then again, I’m the only one, and I still stand by my thought that in Walt’s last conversation with Skylar he only said he did not for the family but for himself so he could end things on good terms with Skylar and she would allow him to see his daughter for the the last time. Also, I was able to catch the moment when Walt got injured and this time noticed his grin as we walked through the lab.
I must have seen the “Ice Ice Baby” video a hundred times as a teen, but I never noticed that Vanilla Ice was dancing in front of the Dallas skyline. Yes, I know he grew up in the area but I never noticed that skyline in the video.
While cleaning out some boxes in the garage I found an old notebook I used in college course that I took with DaughterGeeding’s namesake. I found and forgot that I kept a tally of us competing who many times we could get the professor off topic.
Evidence there’s absurdity in college football rankings – Despite running up the score on high school teams, playing the bottom dwellers of their conference, and only playing one road game this season, Baylor is ranked eighth in the county. Their season starts off pretty easy next year as well as their first three opponents are SMU, Northwestern State, and Buffalo.
That was quite a touching moment in Indianapolis when Peyton Manning acknowledged the crowd, and I certainly didn’t expect Indy to play as well as they did.
Man, those Chiefs are something else, I’ve never seen Andy Reid looked so happy and less stressed.
How the heck did the Jets beat the Pats?
There is one thing the college game can never capture from the pro game. You can’t follow a player like Elway or Manning for ten or fifteen years as they face adversity and come ever so close to being on top of the mountain only to be kicked down, and then finally celebrate with them when they finally stand on that mountaintop after a full career of work to get to that moment.
I never liked Elway for how forced the team that drafted him, the Colts, to trade him. It’s also another reason I’ve never been much of an Eli Manning fan, but I do certainly respect their talents and performance on the field.
Looking at Bum Phillips in the 70’s and 80’s I never would have thought he’d live to 90. I thought it was interesting that a common picture of him was a silhouette of him in his hat at Texas Stadium.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is a fun and interesting follow on Twitter and Reddit. He recently linked to articles in the LA Times and NY Times about how he helped lead the way to get rid of gerrymandering and how California has much less partisan politics. I also recently learned about a political advocacy group called No Labels from Buzzfeed which describes itself as “a national movement of hundreds of thousands of Republicans, Democrats and independents promoting a new politics of problem solving.” Currently there are 87 House and Senate members and it’s co-chaired by co-chaired by former Republican Utah governor and ambassador Jon Huntsman and Democrat West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin. I really admire and respect Huntsman and thought he was the best Republican presidential candidate during the last election.
Guess you never thought I’d praise two former Republican governors.
I thought ’60 Minutes’ was a bit unfair to Dick Cheney last night. He seemed to be endorsing a book about heart health and Dr Sanja Gumpta appeared to just focus on whether or not his heart condition hurt his performace as Vice President.
I was real frustrated with the ‘Mythbusters’ zombie special, especially how the tested kills with an axe. They used a foam axe that left a green paint mark when it struck an object, but never took into account how an axe could get stuck or embedded in a head which would take precious moments away from getting ready for the next kill. They also focused too much on the adage of zombies eating brains, which was really only part of a story line of one zombie movie, everyone know zombies just prefer flesh.
I mentioned last week that ’60 Minutes’ stated that San Francisco, Boston, and Manhattan could fit inside Detroit and a reader provided me stats that that wasn’t true. But when I do a Google search it seems to be a somewhat common perception.
As an exercise for self control, when I drive home from going through the drive-thru I never eat a fry on the ride home. Now if I only had the self control to not make the trip in the first place.
With U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, American military gear sold as scrap – This sentence caught my eye, “The equipment is being destroyed before it’s offered to the Afghan people — to ensure that treadmills, air-conditioning units and other rudimentary appliances aren’t used to make roadside bombs.”
Like you, I re-watched the BB finale after reading about the dream theory. It's a strong concept, but the biggest flaw is in the fact that Walt believed that Jesse was partnered with the Neo-Nazis. The look of anger on his face while he was sitting in the bar and heard that the blue meth was still on the streets made it abundantly clear that he immediately knew Jesse was still cooking, but the natural assumption would be that Jesse was working with, not for, the Nazis. So if it was all his "perfect" dream, he would have mowed down the traitorous Jesse along with the Nazis. Besides, Vince Gilligan has stated that the dream theory isn't the intention of the writers; so while it is a great concept, it's not the original intent.
The usefulness of the "Hell House" bit for the purpose of evangelizing is 100% lost on me. I think it's only result is to further ingrain fear/guilt into the minds of the kids who are already in the church. Yep, salvation through fear & guilt – that generally works out well in the long term, right?
Actually, the Detroit stat is right — I was just pointing out that it's not particularly impressive.
That is, Manhattan only (not all of NYC, 34 sqm), San Francisco (land area only, excluding water in the city boundaries, 47 sqm), and Boston proper (excluding water, 48 sqm) are less than Detroit's 143 sqm. But that doesn't mean that Detroit is particularly large compared to other US cities, or that a city comprising a huge "blighted" area is anything to be proud of.
The reason the Texas Stadium photo of Bum became iconic is because Bum never wore his hat in the Astrodome. I remember hearing him say "My Granmaw taught me it was impolite to wear my hat indoors".
I think they do those tests on Mythbusters badly so they can do another show about people saying the first one was bad.
