  • I find it amazing that Cowboys Stadium will host the first title game of the college football playoff season, especially when you consider how much tradition is valued in the college game.  As much as I like to have the game in my neck of the woods, I would have thought the Rose Bowl would have been a more appropriate place.  It’s also good to know that the Cotton Bowl has returned to elite status.

  • It’s interesting and quite appropriate, I think, that visitors to the George W. Bush Presidential Center will be able to physically touch a piece from the World Trade Center.
  • If I was still working at Southwest Airlines, I would have loved to have stayed late after work to see Air Force One touch down.  This is how close it was to the employee parking lot at HQ.  And yes Stef, I’m jealous, and as much as I love my pay increase and workfing from home, I miss that place and working with people like you.
  • It would have been very easy for Obama to have forgotten about West, but I was impressed when mentioned the city during the Friday night press room briefing after the Boston bombing suspect was captured, and he did the right thing by declaring it a disaster area.  But if not for the George W. Bush Library opening, I doubt he would have visited.

Your Cross-Sit comment reminded me that I have been meaning to ask you a question. A while back you blogged about buying an elliptical machine. Are you still using it and what do you think of the brand/model you purchased (and remind me which one you purchased)

    Hey David –

I did a lot of research and took my time in finding the right elliptical and finally decided on the Octane Q37e that I bought at Busy Body in Lewisville. That was the current model at the time. As I said, I took my time going to many stores and trying them out for several minutes. I guess what won me over was that it was a Consumer Reports Best Buy and it has a few cool feature. For instance there's a timing feature that will tell me when to get off and do weights, and then it beeps to tell me to get back on, that is when I want to do both cardio and weights. Here's more info on Octane products: http://octanefitness.com/products/standing-ellipt

It does have some limitations. It's a bit costly, but I weighed that against the quality of the product. I didn't' want something flimsly or that would break down easily. It doesn't have an incline or decline, you are set in one motion, but the steps/pedals are close together unlike most other ellipticals. Even though there's no incline or decline, the sales person and website showed me variations I can do holding on to the handlebars (like in a low squat position you can see in the link above) to work different leg muscles, and of course you can change the intensity. I also like the moving handlebars which gives you a little bit of an upperbody workout.
