Interesting DWI Test

This guy is pretty impressive, but makes a big goof at the end. It’s just under two minutes but definitely worth your time.

I wonder how Barry would defend him? ;-)

Not sure if this would fly in Texas

Judge orders men to learn English

A judge in the US state of Pennsylvania has ordered three Spanish-speaking men to learn English or go to jail.

The trio, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery, were told they could remain on parole if they studied English and got full-time jobs.

Judge Peter Olszewski said the unusual sentence was supposed to help the men. They will serve their full jail terms if they fail an English test in a year.

Lawyers for the three said they had not yet decided whether they would appeal.

McCain Girls: Raining McCain

Nope, No Connection

A reader sent me this story:

This image provided by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram shows a bottle of vodka with a juvenile rattlesnake inside. Agents said they confiscated 429 bottles of the snake vodka and one bottle of snake tequila from Bayou Bob’s Brazos River Rattlesnake Ranch near Santo in Palo Pinto County, Texas. Bob Popplewell marketed the concoction as an ‘ancient Asian elixir.’ He was charged with selling alcohol without a license and possessing alcohol with intent to sell.

This reader also recalls that I was born and raised in Palo Pinto County and while I was in Vietnam last year I snap a few pictures of snake wine.

The reader wanted to know if there was a connection and if I ever tried the stuff.  Nope, no connection and I’ve never tried and never will try the stuff, it’s just a coincidence.

NBA Dance Team Bracket

NBA.com has a dance team braket done NCAA tourney style, which naturally made me wonder how the Mavs dancers are doing – and it turns out they lost in the first round to the Utah Jazz dancers! I was in disbelief until I saw the picture of the Jazz dancers used against the Mavs dancers. That little easy to find wardrobe is probably one of the most seductive things a woman can wear. Ladies, wear that and you can get your man to do anything.

Circuit judge’s courtroom prayer prompts complaint

MONROEVILLE — A lawsuit over custody of a Monroeville church’s financial records continued Thursday, presided over by a judge accused of ordering parties in the dispute to join him Feb. 22 in a courtroom prayer meeting.

Witnesses said the presiding judge, Covington County Circuit Judge M. Ashley McKathan, told some 100 people, including members of the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and other spectators and officials gathered for a conference regarding the church records case, to join hands in a circle as he prayed.

At one point, witnesses said, the judge fell to his knees.

Birthing stool out of a milk bucket

So I am pregnant. Living in Holland, we just handle the pregnancy with a so called verloskundige (midwife): a medical professional who is skilled in pregnancies and delivering babies. No need for a gynecologist when there is no medical reason.

Birthing should be done as natural as possible, so preferable just like in the old days, at home. So to help me with that, the in-laws provided me with their birthing stool.
These days most midwives carry one standard with them at deliveries. Sitting on it the birthing woman can make good use of gravity to help getting the child out. It also helps a little preventing a disaster zone down there…

But this is not a regular birthing stool. The in-laws used to have a milk farm, so when the use of birthing stools came in use, a home made one was soon provided for the births of the third and fourth child.

Kneeling on it helps bearing the labour contractions better before, and after the birth, catching the placenta.

And yes, this one is made out of a proper milk bucket, with a piping of rubber and a metal seating. Covered with warm towels, it should do its work well.

I’ll let you know how it worked out.

YouTube Debuts Viewer Analytics Tool

Online video makers can now watch those watching their videos.

Google (NSDQ: GOOG)’s YouTube on Thursday released YouTube Insight, a free video analytics tool designed to help video makers understand more about where their viewers are and how those viewers found their videos.

“For example, uploaders can see how often their videos are viewed in different geographic regions, as well as how popular they are relative to all videos in that market over a given period of time,” a YouTube blog post explains. “You can also delve deeper into the lifecycle of your videos, like how long it takes for a video to become popular, and what happens to video views as popularity peaks.”

The metrics YouTube is making available are likely to be appreciated by marketers and professional video makers, who can use the information to see where videos are popular and to correlate changing viewership with related promotions and events.

Injuries at Six Flags

A visit to the local theme park doesn’t always have a happy ending.

Six Flags Over Texas has averaged about 50 guest injuries a year since 2005, ranging from small cuts to dislocated knees and neck strains. At Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, the water park has reported about 20 guest injuries per year in the past three years.

Most of the injuries occurred on the big roller coasters, the Titan and the Texas Giant, which often jostle riders around. But a number of injuries also occurred while guests waited in line, often small children playing on line ropes or running in line.

Pallbearer Buried By Coffin After He Falls Into Grave

A pallbearer says he was seriously hurt after he fell into a grave and the coffin he was helping to carry crashed on top of him.

The injured pallbearer, Joseph Rivas, blamed the funeral home for the accident. Rivas says the grave at Mission Park South was too big and that park workers tried to cover it up.

While acting as a pallbearer for a funeral in February, Rivas says he stepped on a piece of astro-turf that “collapsed into the grave.” Then, the “coffin fell on top” of him resulting in “severe and permanent injury.”
