Pilot Reveals Walk-Through Server Room Underneath Airbus 350 Cockpit

If you assumed that, like a small single-propeller plane, the electronics and computers that power an Airbus 350 are all hidden behind the cockpit’s instrument panel and walls of the aircraft, you’re underestimating just how much computing power is needed to operate a modern airliner. Inside the cockpit is a trapdoor on the floor that leads to the plane’s avionics compartment beneath, which can really only be described as a full-on server room with floor-to-ceiling racks of computers and other electronics and enough room for someone to actually stand down there.

F-bomb warning.

JFK rips into an Air Force general after it becomes public the military spent money on expensive furniture in case Jacqueline Kennedy went into labor.

A recording of a phone call between President Kennedy and General Godfrey McHugh, the Air Force aide to the President. Ever sensitive to public opinion, President Kennedy was horrified to open the paper one day and see a photograph of a navy aide standing next to an expensive new naval project — a hospital bedroom that had been built at a base on Cape Cod, to be ready in case Jacqueline Kennedy went into labor with their son, Patrick Bouvier Kennedy. Such an expenditure seems modest today, but Kennedy was irate at the cost and, even worse, the publicity involved. This recording is a part of “Listening In, The Secret White House Recordings of President Kennedy,” available in stores now.

That $5,ooo would cost $44,568.71 today. Still a pittance in military spending terms.

I smiled at the Airbus article mentioning Flightplan. That’s what I thought of when I read the headline.
