Bag of Randomness for Thursday, May 21, 2020

Most of you have no idea what the Syner Cut is but it’s been something I’ve been hoping to see for a long time now, and now it’s coming to HBO Max, which oddly, really doesn’t have much to do with HBO. It’s really a Warner Bros. streaming service but they just thought the HBO moniker was a better sell for a streaming service.

Any longtime reader knows I’m fascinated by Howard Hughes. I’m curious how he’d hold up if he were alive today. I’m sure most would argue he’d be a recluse, but I think he’d be more sociable since masks and gloves have almost become the norm. He’d be thinking, “Finally, the world has conformed to my standards.” This all came to mind as I saw this photo of Jerry Jones.

The Fastest-Growing And Fastest-Declining Retail Brands From 2019 To 2020, Visualized

The top two fastest-growing brands are lululemon and Costco. The top two fasting-declining brands are Under Armour and H&M. Also on that list is Subway and The North Face (goodness, their logo placement always has annoyed me).

    #MyBad? It’s all good. 🙂

Public school has their early release days for the kids; the business world knocks off early for a happy hour (pre-pandemic)… surely, a blogger is entitled to something similar? 🙂

You’ve delivered more quality content with five items than I’ll find all day. That’s a job well done.

If anyone complains, just offer them their money back.

Is the first item supposed to be “the Snyder cut”? I don’t know what the “the Syner Cut” is.

Dude, I’m impressed that you manage to crank out the content you do on a near daily basis.

I haven’t thought of the new HBO app as being a vehicle for WB, but that makes sense. I signed up last week on pre-purchase special where they were offering it for $3 off per month for a year and gave you access to the existing app in the meantime. Friends and Big Bang Theory should alone make it pretty successful, one that has been insanely popular on Netflix and the other that hasn’t streamed online in its entirety in awhile (if ever). I hope HBO can manage to string together a West Wing reunion or update like they’re doing for Friends before Martin Sheen is still active (he turns 80 this summer). I’m gonna be pissed if their reunion show ends up having to be centered around President Bartlett’s funeral.

Hughes was a fascinating character. Amazing aeronautical engineer/innovator. Obsessive Compulsive to the maximum, where it eventually drove him over the edge IMO. Also believe his compulsions led to his isolation and control by his handlers and intermediaries in his later years. They said they were acting on his instructions, but were they really? And the whole Glomar Explorer story concerning recovery of the sunken Russian submarine was fascinating.
