I cook a lot for my family and sometimes I’ll look for recipes for ideas. I’ve found most online recipes start off with some sort of sappy or feelgood family story which takes up 80% of what’s on the page. Dude, just give me the recipe. Or, as Parcells would say, “Don’t tell me about the pain, show me the baby.”

The Navy is spending roughly $1.1 million to send about 500 recruits each week to the Great Wolf Lodge Water Park near Chicago for two weeks of quarantine before they are shipped to basic training, service officials said.

US Postal Service delays next-generation mail truck program due to pandemic
The post office now uses about 140,000 Grumman Long Life Vehicles for its main delivery service. Manufactured from 1987 through 1994, they need to be replaced. A 2014 audit from the office of the USPS inspector general found that the current fleet was expected to only meet the delivery needs of the agency through the 2017 fiscal year. But delays in the replacement program have kept the trucks in operation.

Every Call Sign From ‘Top Gun,’ Ranked
Don’t challenge me on the number of times I’ve watched that movie. I took some sort of easy-A computer class my senior year and we programmed the computer to play certain segments from the LaserDisc player, and the only movie we had was Top Gun. I think we only programmed it two or three times and spent all semester watching the movie during that class period. For you kids out there, a LaserDisc was basically a precursor to the DVD but was the size of a standard vinyl record.

1986 was a big year for Phil Collins. Coming down off of the high of No Jacket Required and that was the year that Invisible Touch was released by Genesis.
I do not cook often, but I will sometimes use AllRecipes.com. I especially like the Ingredient Search. You can plug in a few things you have on-hand and it will give you recipes that include those ingredients. One drawback is they’ve changed the results page so that it includes advertisements and random cooking videos in with the results from your search which can be confusing. But I still like the site.
I frequently use recipes found online and they can be an absolutely beating, especially those found through social media. I want a list of ingredients and the step-by-step, 1,2,3… process. I don’t need the back story or to hear much your kids loved it or how you like to trick it up by replacing sour cream with fat free olive oil mayonnaise.
I’m glad to hear Sprint is on the outs. I was a long time Sprint customer starting in the very early ’00s. Around 2008, I tried to upgrade our phones that we had been using for around 4 years and they gave me an offer that was going to nearly double my bill and cost me about $500. I ended up making the switch to AT&T and the iPhone and breaking a contract with Sprint that might have had 2 months left on it. I got some nasty calls from them claiming I owed them a few hundred dollars and I quickly told them which one of their own bodily orifices might contain their money. I never received anything from them in writing and, as far as I know, they never sent it to collections.
I don’t remember Chipper’s call sign being used in Top Gun, but given the description, that’s him talking to Sundown in the photo accompanying his description. I also don’t remember Stinger ever being referred to by that call sign. I couldn’t assign a number to it, but I’ve seen Top Gun a lot. It was the first movie released on VHS at a reasonable price and I probably watched it 3 or 4 times a week the summer after we bought it.
Loved the Music Mashup. The 80s era is my all-time favorite music groove.
The restaurant blow-up dolls don’t look like the G-rated variety. At least that’s what my old strange college roommate tells me. I don’t know his frame of reference. Not asking either.
I was recently given a cookbook my grandmother made inside another book (she pasted the recipes on the pages). It was a hidden goldmine of her cooking discovered in some old boxes. I guess crossing the prairie in a wagon, raising a family during the dust bowl and surviving great depression in rural Texas made you recycle things before recycling was cool.
