I was not aware . . .

That there’s a Saved By The Bell Soundtrack.

And who’s this guy?  He’s Michael Damian, the voice of the show’s theme song.

What else might you remember him from?  A hit from the 80’s called “Rock On.”

Something I Didn’t Know About Alaska

Alaska has no income or sales tax, and a huge chunk of its annual revenue — as much as 90 percent — comes from taxes and fees on oil companies. When oil prices soar, as they did this summer, so do the state’s coffers: Alaska in the past two years has socked away billions in its already massive savings account.

But that account, the $28 billion Alaska Permanent Fund, sends every Alaskan a dividend each year — this year it was $2,069.

I was not aware . . .

That there are plenty of mens clothes at the Oprah store.

If you are a woman that just can’t break up with your boyfriend, buying one of these Harpo Studio shirts just might do the trick.  But then again, it would make a great gag gift.

And if you are a mother of a newborn, you can annoy your husband by dressing your child (especially a boy) up in Oprah baby gear complete with the O logo.

Oh, and if I ever come home and DogGeeding is dressed in one of these, WifeGeeding will have some explaining to do.

Tempting Video of the Day

Just because you cut the head off a snake doesn’t mean it’s safe to be around it.

I was not aware . . .

On both the British and the U.S. Virgin Islands, vehicles are driven on the left-hand side of the road, yet most cars on the islands have their steering wheels on the left side (as is the norm for drive-on-the-right localities). Also on both the British and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the United States dollar is the official currency.

Who made Padre Pio’s new face?

From my understanding, the leaders of the Catholic faith will sometimes exhume a body of a saint for public display.  The most current is Padre Pio.

The corpse of Padre Pio, exhumed amid protests from relatives and locals in his home town (see earlier post) has been displayed in a glass coffin and launched with a special open-air Mass by a Cardinal. “Padre Pio was dressed in a brown robe and his was covered in a life-like silicone mask” says the report, and already over 700,000 people have registered to view his body at the Capuchin friary in San Giovanni Rotondo. The priest died in 1968, at the age of 81, after living for decades with bleeding wounds on his hands and feet – ’stigmata” – which were never explained.  Link

But I wasn’t aware that the face you actually see is a mask created by the British company GEMS.

World’s largest desert?

Sahara? No.

Mojave? Nope.

Arabian? Nada.

Try the Antarctic.

A desert is a landscape or region that receives very little precipitation – less than 250 mm per year (about ten inches). Approximately 1/3 of Earth’s land surface is a desert.

The largest areas on Earth that fit this definition are the polar regions. Antarctica has a surface area of about 14 million square kilometers (5.5 million square miles), making it the largest desert in the world.

The largest non-polar desert is the Sahara Desert of northern Africa. The Sahara has a surface area of 9 million square kilometers (3.5 million square miles), and it stands as the largest non-polar desert in the world.
