  • Hey Microsoft, can we lay it off with the Salmon Sisters commercials during football games this weekend, just a tad, please?
  • Georgetown, TX is the first city in the state to be solely run on renewable energy (wind and solar), perhaps the largest city in the United States to do so.
    • “Actually, our wind farm is more than 600 miles (965 kilometres) away up in the panhandle and our solar farm is about 700 miles (1,125 kilometres) away, and so through the transmission lines, that’s how we get the electricity.”

  • Tennessee High School AD/Assistant Principal Put On Leave, Says Girls ‘Pretty Much Ruin Everything’
    • “And if you want to blame someone, blame the girls, because they pretty much ruin everything,” Hensley said. “They ruin the dress code, well — ask Adam. Look at Eve. That’s really all you got to get to. You can go back to the beginning of time.”
    • “It’ll be like that the rest of your life, keep your mouth shut, suck it up and follow the rules,” Hensley said.
  • McDonald’s removing artificial additives from its burgers – Even the Big Mac Special Sauce is getting a makeover.
  • ‘House of Cards’ teaser previews Claire’s battle with nearly everyone
  • The Jonestown massacre has always intrigued me. ABC will have a special about it tonight. For you young ones out there, that’s the origination of the expression, “Drinking the Kool-Aid”
  • Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers
  • I’m withholding my thoughts and opinions regarding yesterday’s Senate hearing. So I promise there’s no hidden message or slight here. However, the LiberallyLean guy posted a collection of thoughts that got me to thinking how easy it can be for anyone’s judgment to be clouded. It would be challenging for me to rank these in terms of which would have been the most unbelievable to me just five or ten years ago. Maybe the U.S. gymnastics doctor molesting all those girls would top the list. Hell, they all would have been hard to believe.

Regarding the Union Jack. It looks to me that it is folded over and the head and feet so that the folks transporting the casket do not put their hands on the flag. Once it reaches its destination I am sure they unfold it on the ends to look more like what you are used to seeing.

The “hard to believe” observations that BG cite are a sign of the times. Bad people exist. A particular danger, however, is to try to apply such observations to particular instances. How silly is the statement “Because a physician molested gymnasts, Kavanaugh is guilty.” Or “because Bill Cosby assaulted women, so did Kavanaugh.” Yet that’s the correlation many people have tried to establish. The fact that evil exists in the world shouldn’t make rational people take leave of their senses.

Agreed, but I think LL’s comments specifically address Lindsey Graham and Donald Trumps comments that, if this assault happened, they have a hard time believing she wouldn’t have said something at the time or filed criminal charges. It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of what sexual assault is, that it is not just a non-consensual encounter, but also one with a power dynamic that discourages revelation by employing shame and fear.

      • wordkyle says:

No argument from me on your points. My point is about those who equate flawed arguments in support of Kavanaugh as proof of his guilt. Or who equate other instances of misconduct as proof of his.

BG has become ridiculously one sided and jaded since he turned off commenting. I think some of the comments would give him pause in a constructive way about some of his opinions. He is off the charts now.

Blog owners like Barry and Keith should enjoy the freedom of posting their musings as they see fit. Keith is still kind enough to permit his readers the privilege (not the right) to comment. Barry grew tired of the daily harangue to “educate” him to the “error of his ways” in the comment section and turned it off. Both men can do what they choose and we readers should just enjoy the product they provide us whether we agree or disagree and not sit in judgment of them or their postings. Just my opinion.

            • Harry Hood says:

I get it. But BG has lost all objectivity. He is frothing at the mouth. I enjoy Keith’s musings more because there is some balance and not the sky is falling crap every single day.

I witness enough Trump Derangement Syndrom randomly and don’t need to go seeking it on Barry’s Blog, thus, I no longer bother reading Barry’s Blog.

What I have a hard time believing is that there’s any debate regarding Kavanaugh’s innocence, since ALL FOUR “witnesses” Dr Ford provided either deny being aware of such an incident and/or even present at the party at which Dr Ford claims to have been sexually assaulted. Dr Ford’s best friend, Leland Keyser, one of the four witnesses, even went so far as to say that she “… does not know Mr Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr Ford.” If Dr Ford can’t remember the people who were or were not at the party, can’t recall how she got to the party, how she got home from the party or even the date or place of the party, there’s every likelihood Dr Ford has misremembered who it was who assaulted her at the party.

Think of it this way. Someone alleges that YOU beat their dog and provides four people they claim were present when YOU beat their dog. All four of the people swear they don’t ever recall an instance where YOU beat a dog and one of the people even declare they’ve never even met/seen YOU. All the while YOU proclaim YOU have never beat any dog and maintain your innocence. Who do YOU think should be believed?

If a prosecutor only had four witnesses to substantiate charges against a defendant and all four of the witnesses refuted the charges against a defendant, one even claiming to have never seen the defendant, shouldn’t the defendant be found not guilty and cleared of all charges?

The thing I have the hardest time believing is that a woman, with a sketchy memory and zero corroborating evidence of an event she believes happened to her 35 years ago, can totally unravel the pristine reputation and career of a man.

The only people that think that Barry’s blog has swung further left are the keyboard strongmen that can’t come to grips with not being able to anonymously eviscerate him in the comments every day. The word “liberal” is in the title of his blog and his opinions are…(wait for it)…liberal? Unpossible! Egregious!

    • RPM says:

      We have a bingo!

    • Harry Hood says:

Says the anonymous keyboard strongman. Irony much? I don’t think the word liberally in the title of his blog has anything to do with politics. The title would infer a limited amount of liberalism! Inconceivable!

    • wordkyle says:

I complimented BG regularly on his willingness to allow those whose views differed from his to express them in his blog. He did indeed have “Liberal” in his blog name, so no surprises there. I poked him with a stick occasionally, but he knew it was all in good fun. The comments were always lively but in recent years, according to BG, they had become nastier and nastier. It’s sad that a good forum went away because of something like that.

Trump’s election hit many on the Left hard, and their tactics and speech often reflect their bitterness. BG was susceptible to that, and his own writings about politics have become angrier and meaner — more like the comments he hated. He’s a good guy, and deserves to not feel bad because he runs a blog. But like many others I wish his blog was back as it was several years ago, with lively debate, before everyone’s nastiness took them over.

And a big thank you to Geeding for allowing some of the spillover to stain his comments section. You, also, are a Good Guy.

  5. Bryan B says:

Keith – my apologies for my part in the discussion taking this turn and my apologies to others in this discussion for the abruptness of my remarks. I disagree that Barry’s blog has changed, but hey, you’re free to interpret his comments in whatever way you want.
