Bag of Randomness

  • Keith is looking for names for his back brace and walker.  He’s usually pretty clever with coming up with ideas, but I think the drugs are affecting his brain. Right now he calls his back brace his corset.
  • He thinks he is never going to poop again.  In case you weren’t aware, a side effect of pain medication is constipation.
  • I left Keith alone for about an hour and he dropped the remote.  Thank goodness for the DirecTV app on his phone that allowed him to change the channel.
  • I changed his bandage on his back tonight.  It was the first time either one of us saw the stitches.  Care to know how many?  Click here to count.
  • Despite being off of his baby Aspirin and supplements for 2 weeks before surgery the surgery team noticed how thin his blood was when they cut him open.
  • According to Keith’s FitBit this is how many steps he’s taken since surgery.
    • Saturday:  346
    • Sunday:  368
    • Monday:  495
    • Tuesday:  694
  • Keith wanted the kids out of the house this afternoon because he was afraid they were going to bump into him.  So we went on a bike ride.
  • Keith wrote a note for the kids and put it in their lunchbox on Friday (day of the surgery).  DaughterGeeding found hers today.
  • He received the Flu shot and Pneumonia shot the day he was discharged.
  • I should have noted that Keith makes his Rice Krispie Treats with peanut butter and they are delicious!
  • I love Big Red (the drink), but only drink it about 3 times a year from various restaurants.
  • Eating cereal out of a cup is much more efficient than a bowl.  When you are finished eating the cereal, you have the cup to drink the remaining milk.
  • Keith thinks the Olympics will only be broadcast on Amazon or Netflix.

Two brothers with back surgery similar to Keith’s and the healing is a process. It takes time Keith, so patience and do as much as you feel comfortable with. It will all come back, but you have to trust your body to do the work it takes to get there. Having never been anywhere but on the caregiver side I can’t say I know how you feel, but I am 100% sure you are being cared for.

  2. Peggy says:

Oh, I vote for naming the back brace…….Bruce!! and the walker Chester!!

  3. Kaleb says:

Herschel Walker or Walker Texas Ranger are my votes for the walker.

  4. AndreaJN says:

You figured out how to post pictures! Well done WifeGeeding!

  5. Michael K says:

    Kaleb for the win!

Healing and recovery is definitely a process. I had a bit more extensive of a surgery than Keith but roughly the same thing. I am on month 2 1/2 and still only work half days and basically do nothing the rest of the day. It is maddening but anything more and I will pay for it for the next day or week. So take it easy and take the time to heal.

Moon walker? And every time he starts walking, he could say “That’s one small step for man…”
he’s a Tickethead, so why not Ty Walker?

    The stitches look good, but…
“Ooooh, that’s gonna leave a mark!”

Drug-induced constipation is no joke – just ask Elvis.

When I was a kid, my grandmother had a homemade ice cream maker, and she would make ice cream for me every summer using Big Red. I almost never drink it now, but all it takes is one sniff and I’m instantly transported back to MawMaw’s house, sitting on the floor by her rocking chair, watching the Golden Girls. Thanks for bringing that smile to my face this morning.

And kudos to you for handling the nursing duties so well. On Nov. 2, our teenage daughter had an accidental fall at school, and tore the ACL, MCL, PCL, and lateral meniscus in her right knee. Since then, we have essentially had a 17-yr-old toddler because she can’t walk or care for herself, and nursing has become a secondary job for everyone in our family. It is exhausting and stressful, so kudos to you for dealing with all of that while juggling the household/kids/etc. I know Keith appreciates it!

Tommy Boy is on to something. Ty Walker is very good. As far as the brace, I’m thinking something Game of Thrones-ish like Lord of Bones.

    Get well soon!

  9. Rob says:

Call the walker “Walker”, and the brace “Texas Ranger”.

  10. JayF says:

    Sky-walker….

Big Red is where it’s at, definitely better than Big Blue.
You are correct on the cereal in a bowl observation and I hope KG is correct on the Olympics prediction. Keep getting a little better each day KG, it just takes time man.
Nice work on the blog Mrs. G

I think you have an excellent future in blogging. Look forward to a separate blog someday written by WifeGeeding. Could be named Bag of Something?

  12. Bryan says:

Best wishes to Keith for a continued recovery.

My name suggestion for the walker is “Walker Railey”. I fear that semi-obscure, North Texas pop culture reference will be lost on a lot of people, but Keith, being the religion and North Texas pop culture aficionado that he is, will get it.

Walker Railey is a golden throwback reference. And great blogging, WifeGeeding, during Geeding1’s absence! Here’s to the continued recovery.
