  • Off hand, you wouldn’t think Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails would make for good collaboration with Ken Burns, but his work on ‘The Vietnam War’ soundtrack has been fantastic.
  • Gallup News – Perceived Need for Third Major Party Remains High in U.S.
    • Nearly twice as many Americans today think a third major party is needed in the U.S. as say the existing parties do an adequate job of representing the American people. The 61% who contend that a third party is needed is technically the highest Gallup has recorded, although similar to the 57% to 60% holding this view since 2013. Barely a third, 34%, think the Republican and Democratic parties suffice.
  • I laughed at a tweet yesterday which had a bunch of photos of NFL players kneeling with a caption stating how it took a while, but everyone is now Tebowing.
  • Aaron Rodgers with a little kneeling humor.
  • Yesterday, U2 released the official video of “You’re The Best About Me”. While I enjoyed it, I wasn’t much impressed. It’s just the four of them doing a bit of this and that in NYC. And to be straightforward, even if they were using an artistic form of expression, I wasn’t comfortable with them performing with the NYC skyline behind them with the World Trade Center Tribute in Light behind them.
  • About once a year I find an article which reminds me of ‘The Simpsons’ episode in which Homer discovers a crayon has been stuck up his nose since childhood, has it removed which increases his intelligence, but later shoves it back in so he can return to his normal self.
    • Here’s the articleA toy traffic cone has been found in the lung of a man 40 years after he inhaled it. It was originally thought that the unnamed 47-year-old man from Preston might have cancer.
  • Houston PD throwing a lot of social media shade at our local baseball club.
  • In other Houston sports news, their starting quarterback did a nice thing – Deshaun Watson gives paycheck to Harvey victims
    • Three cafeteria workers at NRG Stadium received an unexpected gift from quarterback Deshaun Watson this week. Watson decided he wanted to give his first NFL paycheck to the ladies who had lost cars and homes during Hurricane Harvey.
  • Network, newspaper staffers hit by logistical headaches as they descend on Puerto Rico
    • Reporting from Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria has been one of the toughest assignments for journalists, as the island is grappling with damaged infrastructure, limited commercial flights and spotty electricity and cell service. And yet, nearly every major American English and Spanish-language broadcast, cable network and national newspaper have correspondents on the ground.

    • The costs to freeze and lift the freeze on your credit vary based on where you live, but commonly ranges from $2 to $10 per agency.
  • So very hypnotic, I watched this over and over for a good two minutes.

The U2 video is just kind of…odd? I'm a huge fan of NYC, so the visuals are great. And I like the scenes of them riding around on a double decker tour bus. But the song isn't really about NYC or America (lots of flags and red/white/blue). It's like they filmed a video for the wrong song.

On the flip side of that, what's the audience for music videos these days? I assume it's strictly an online thing these day since there's not a tv network to carry them any more.
