  • I’ve been in the doldrums as of late, but yesterday I decided to take BoyGeeding on a bike ride which seemed to help a bit.  There’s something about being able to spend time with your child with wind and sunshine hitting your face that puts things in perspective.
  • I didn’t hear any mention of Willie Nelson at the ACM Awards.  There were plenty of Texas references during the telecast, and Nelson would surely be in the Mount Rushmore of Texas music, so that’s a bit surprising.
  • I love ‘Mad Men’, but the way AMC decided to divvy up the final season, I just kinda want to get it over with.
  • I have a feeling we’re not going to see any direwolves in ‘Game of Thrones’ this season, but if we’re lucky, Ghost might make an appearance.
  • Last night Jon Stewart mentioned his last ‘Daily Show’ will be on Thursday Aug 6.
  • Sometimes bathroom renovations don’t go as planned.
  • There was a news story yesterday about a Texas woman who lost her leg in the Boston Marathon tragedy who ran the race this year with a prosthetic.  WifeGeeding playfully joked she did a half-marathon with a prosthetic.  I told her, “Eye see what you did there”
  • I’d buy stock in Blue Bell if they weren’t a private company.  If they were publicly traded, their stock price would be taking a big hit now, but you know it’s going to recover.
  • About two weeks ago I saw the movie Interstellar via on-demand and I just can’t get the movie out of my mind, watching just about every legit YouTube video about it.  The film’s director, Christopher Nolan, will be on Neil deGrasse Tyson’s ‘StarTalk’ television show on the National Geographic Channel next week.  Later this week I plan on either renting or buying the Blu-ray just to see the three hours of the behind the scenes stuff.  As for  last night’s ‘StarTalk’, the series premiere, I think we got a better look at Tyson’s office, which looked cooler than it did than what we saw in his ’60 Minutes’ feature.
  • The show that came on after ‘StarTalk, ‘The Big Picture with Kal Penn’, stated that in the next two years, we’ll write more words on Twitter than in all of the books ever printed.
  • In the segment after his monolog, David Letterman has been replaying some of his most memorable moments, and it’s been a fun trip down memory lane for this fan.  He’s not going to do it, but I wish he’d do another show wearing sneakers, khakis, and a blue blazer like the old NBC days.  Travolta was on the show last night, and it looked like he put too much toupee glue on his head as something was strangely visible in his temple area.
  • A woman who works at a creative advertising agency decided to wear the same outfit everyday for three years.  She basically did this to save her creative energy for the workplace and to save a bit of time every day.
  • TIME – The science of Internet trolls
  • It’s just a great last name for a Secretary of State – Today’s dose of ‘MURICA!
  • Buzzfeed – Scientists Used An MRI To See What Happens When Your Joints Crack
  • Newly discovered frog species looks a lot like Kermit the Frog
  • Sunday was the premiere of the new season of my favorite survivalist show ‘Naked and Afraid’:
    • I’m amazed at how far humans have come from separating ourselves from nature and the elements.
    • This episode was filmed in the Everglades, and I also saw a Florida vacation commercial during the show, so I wonder if that’s some sort of arrangement.
    • Usually, there’s a lot of suffering, but the male contestant totally made survival look easy.  His female companion was also awesome, but she fell sick and had to tap out on day sixteen of twenty-one.
    • The female had a goal of killing a gator for food but wanted to take some uncalculated risks in getting one.  Her male companion objected several times citing safety over adventure, and she flat out called him a p—-.  To her credit, she apologized the next day.  She never caught a gator, but after she left due to dysentery, the male was able to kill one with a noose and machete.  He later built a smoker out of big leaves to cook the thing, and it worked during rainfall.
    • It was stated that the lactic acid in sweat is what attracts mosquitoes.  The female complained about being constantly bit inside of her, well, you know.  It reminded me of an episode from last season where the female kept getting leeches attached to that same area.

The house we're building will have a decent sized media room, which will be the highlight of the house for me. I've spent months planning the speakers, projector, seating, etc. Last week I finally chose and bought the first movie I'll watch once it's all set up: Interstellar. Few movies I've ever seen have moved me as much. Being a father made it especially powerful. What an amazing film.

I think that lady stole that idea from Steve Jobs, who had a whole closet full of black turtlenecks. At least she didn't use any creative energy figuring that out. 🙂

My brother got his "dream" job working for home. The job lasted a month, couldn't handle it. I wonder if you would benefit from working in a "normal" office. BTW, I couldn't handle working from home, I'm a loner by nature, but there are five of six people at work that make me smile and make me happy just to talk to them.

I'm glad to hear of someone else that enjoyed "Interstellar" (I'm assuming you did since you said you couldn't get enough of the extraneous material). I thought it was incredible. I know there were a lot of people that didn't like the neat and tidy way it wrapped up in the end, but I loved it even more on a second viewing.

And as to your belief that Blue Bell rebounds, I think you're absolutely right. WFAA did a viewer poll and 93% said they would plan on buying their products in the future. Yeah, far from a scientific measurement and it doesn't take into account the short-term damage of the recall, but I think brand loyalty and reputation will go a long way in this case.
