  • I finally gave boiled peanuts a try.  Granted, they were in a can, and I warmed them up according to the instructions, but I’m not a fan.  Maybe if I had some freshly cooked from Georgia I’d like them better, but I doubt it.  According to this video, you are suppose to put them, shell and all, in your mouth, and eat them kinda like a sunflower seed.
  • While watching the Sixties ‘Batman’ show, it was revealed the Bruce Wayne’s great-great grandfather founded the Yale University secret society Skull and Bones.
  • We are members church affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and after Sunday’s sermon, there was a quick meeting with the congregation to address the recent news  about the change in the wording of its constitution to allow gay and lesbian weddings within the church.  The members our church are overwhelmingly conservative and didn’t really have any concerns since the state of Texas doesn’t recognize that kind of marriage, so such a thing can’t happen yet.  And it seemed they were comforted when our pastor stated that even if it did become legal, he wouldn’t perform a ceremony that included like genders.  There was some small talk about moving to another denomination, but after talking about the financial problems that lead to a court appearance and a $7.8 million settlement over property ownership between PCUSA and Highland Park Presbyterian’s decision leave the denomination, things quieted down.  I’m still predicting that our church will leave in the next two years, for sure the next five.  Man, I loath church politics and denominational strife, it gets the church off their intended purpose.  Allow me to quote on Los Angelean profit, “Can we all just get along?”
  • I believe my pastor is honest about his stance on gay marriage, but part of me wonders if he had the opposite stance, how many members would leave our church and what kind of financial burden that would bring.  It’s just a guess, but I’d say the church would lose about 75% of its members and would close its doors in less than two years.
  • I’m actually surprised Senator Ted Cruz will actually run for president, I thought he was too smart to do such a thing, that he has greater influence without the restrictions of the White House.  Granted, I don’t see him getting close to his party’s nomination, and it will be interesting to see people in his own party attacking him, but I do like how he’s foregoing forming presidential exploratory committee.

  • ’60 Minutes’ had a segment on Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson.  As a fan I was familiar with just about everything on the segment, but I was most fascinated with how his office at the Hayden Planetarium looked.  Other than having a copy of Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’, it was more bright and sterile than I’d imagined.  His latest podcast features Elon Musk.

  • I’m about six episodes in watching the original series of ‘Star Trek’.  So far it’s been real interesting. I think it turned me off as a kid because I was expecting more action and adventure stuff with great special effects, but now as an adult, I realize this show started two decades before Star Wars, so the special effects are understandably different; and ‘Star Trek’ isn’t about action or adventure, but more about thought provoking scenarios about humanity. I liken the first six I’ve watched to the Twilight Zone.

    Two decades?
    Star Trek – 1966
    Star Wars – 1977
    🙂

I thought the same thing about Neil DeGrasse Tyson's office. I thought it would be much larger and loaded with memorabilia. It actually looked very generic, but maybe he just doesn't spend much time there.

  3. Grizz says:

Is Cruz running for president because he thinks he can win or is he running to force the other candidates to take more extreme positions in order to survive in the early primaries?

  4. Jason says:

I give Cruz a pretty good chance at getting the nomination. Just think how ramped up the tea partiers are going to be with Hillary on the ticket. BENGHAZI!!!! E-MAIL!!! IRS!!!! They are the most loyal voters, and they are running farher and farther to the right. And in their twisted logic, they think a guy named 'Cruz' will bring in Hispanic votes.

This is going to be a wild ride.
