  • Powdered sugar is overrated.
  • I have this haunting childhood memory of an event that happened in the second grade.  My mother always made me do my homework when I got home, before I could play or watch television, and this one time I had a reading assignment and she made me read it out loud to her.  The next day at school we were divided in small groups with the teacher who asked me a question about the story and I remember telling her that I didn’t know the answer.  That didn’t make her happy and she accused me of not reading the story.  When I told her I did indeed read the story she said I wasn’t telling the truth and ordered me to sit in the hallway to read it.  I remember that long walk to the hallway, and I couldn’t hold back the tears as I was embarrassed in front of my classmates and frustrated that even though I did read the story, I couldn’t remember anything about it and being accused of lying.  I never told my parents about that event, I guess I was scared it was going to get me into even more trouble.  Man, the things that goes through the mind of a seven-year-old and the things that stay with ya.  I think of of this at least once a week.
  • I totally gave Adrian Peterson the benefit of the doubt up until yesterday when I really started to pay attention to all the stores.  At first I just thought it was a bit of rough parenting he learned from when he was a child, and then I thought he wouldn’t do such a thing especially after he lost a son to child abuse by another man, but all this evidence seems overwhelming.  Of course I feel for the kid, but I also feel for his head coach, Mike Zimmer, a long time Cowboys assistant coach that is finally getting his big chance as a head coach and this falls in his lap.  But I do have a feeling Jerry has an idea of a public image campaign and signing him to the roster somehow.
  • After seeing this, I may not buy a smoker after all, I might just build a smokehouse – DIY Cedar Smokehouse
  • I don’t know a lot about medical professionalism, but I’m pretty sure Joan Rivers’ doctor lacked it if it’s true he took a selfie with her when she was under anesthesia.
  • While watching the Ken Burns Roosevelt documentary last night I was reminded that state legislatures use to chose their U.S. senators.  I’m not saying I like the idea, but I’m curious as to why it’s no longer like that.
  • It was stated in that documentary that President Taft’s Republican party was actually a collection of state parties that controlled their state legislatures which in turn was controlled by special interests.  Maybe history is repeating itself.
  • My liberal friends are going to think I’m nuts for saying this, but they way TR and FDR acting in the state legislature reminds me a lot of how Ted Cruz has made a name for himself.
  • TR use to carry a lethal dose of morphine when he was in the wilderness, just in case he knew he wasn’t going to make it out alive.
  • I think the documentary made a mistake.  From my understanding it stated that former Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court Charles Evans Hughes ran for president.  That is, it implied a former Chief Justice ran for president.  But in reality, Hughes ran for president and later became Chief Justice.

  • While listening to the new U2 album which is about their youth and young adult life, I suddenly became in awe of how cool it must be to be extremely tight with your best buds and then be able to write music about that bond as you become men.
  • Here’s an interesting article about what Joey Ramone’s friends and family feel about U2’s tribute single.  The most interesting part was Ramone’s brother stating that Apple has been working with him for weeks to gain approval for the use of Joey’s image without knowing exactly what it was being used for.
  • I’m surprised they made this mistake of combining the red stair with the name Saigon – Logo for Yum! Brands banh mi restaurant angers Vietnamese community
  • The only reason I’ve stuck with Sprint as my mobile provider is because of the unlimited data plan, but I’m thinking of switching WifeGeeding to another carrier because getting service/reception is horrible.  I was surprised that AT&T will charge for “detailed billing“.  I’ve had horrible experiences with AT&T and Verizon and still hold a grudge, so maybe my only option is T-Mobile.

Direct election of senators was brought about in large part to fight corruption. Think about it: if senators are chosen by the state legislatures, then lobbyists need only to buy the influence of key state legislators in order to get the "right" candidate placed in the Senate. Of course, arguably senators are still bought and sold by lobbyists, but that's a whole other discussion. Also, though, if the state legislature couldn't agree on who to elect, the seat would sit empty until they could agree – which is obviously a problem.

Apparently Chief Justice Samuel Chase attempted to gain both the Republican AND Democratic nominations for President in 1868, and then founded a third party and sought its presidential nomination in 1871. Ambitious much??

The #1 least educated city? Yeah, I grew up 15 miles from there. I'm not shocked at all. That's why I always tell people that my hometown is a great place to be FROM.

Clicked on the cobra GIF expecting to see snakes protecting a baby snake. Boy, was I wrong. Boy, was I surprised.

We're really screwing up the message of Christ, aren't we? Ugh.

I believe the move to have senators elected by popular vote began in Montana, where their senators were basically picked by the owners of the copper mines, all of which were headquartered on the East Coast. BTW, Governor Perry wants a return to senators being picked by the state legislatures. The idea of controlling congress through state governments is a concept that Karl Rove has been preaching for, very successfully, over the past decade. Think redistricting.

I'm enjoying the Roosevelt documentary but at two uninterrupted hours each night it's almost like sitting through a really long history lecture every night.

It's hard for me to imagine a time when we had to pass a law to limit child workplace rules to no more than a 50 hour work-week [a work-week being six days] and coal miners were required to work a 90 hour work-week. And that the public believed that's just how free enterprise normally worked. TR thought the government needed to act as a counterweight to unbridled capitalism, which in the 1900s was a radical idea.

TR looked like a really, really old man when he was in his 50s.

The segment covering his eleven month safari to Africa where he killed hundreds of exotic animals made me sick. He hunted giraffes??

Adrian Peterson to the Cowboys? I was guessing if Ray Rice wins his arbitration that the Cowboys would snatch him up.

Go with ATT but pay as you go.
My fiance has a Nexus5 that we bought from the Google play store, and use ATT pay as you go which is $60 for unlimited talk, unlimited text, and 3gb of data. I also am still on my parent's family plan (which I pay for now) and we've got two Nexus5s, a Galaxy S4 and a dumbphone. With their new family share plan, the 3 smartphones split 10GB of data, and everyone has unlimited talk and text. That plan ends up being $161.

If you go in knowing exactly what plan you want, bring phones with you (I have never bought phones as part of the plans) and doublecheck the agreement you will not have to deal with customer support. And you can view all the billing online in detail. You have to shuffle between tabs and lines, but it is there.

In San Antonio, the only really good data signal comes from ATT. But at least they don't throttle your data, like the other (not sprint) providers do. He's a grudge holder as well, but he hated that I always had an awesome signal, hence the pay as you go.s
