Ya know stuff like that burns me up. I think most people don't realize the minimum wage does not apply to waitstaff. Most only get paid a little over $2 an hour and depend on tips. They aren't making $10 an hour PLUS tips. I hope God gave them a nice case of explosive intestinal disorder for their vanity.
I give God 10%, but He's asked me to think of other people before myself, so I tip 15-100% (yes 100%). People matter too much to God to treat them like this Pharisee did. That's the most unloving thing I've ever seen.
Read the linked story. Parties of 8 or less could tip as they pleased. It was his portion of a table of 20. A gratuity was automatically added to groups of 9 or more and was clearly stated on the menu. The guy was just being a pompus jerk.
Can't even identify as a Christian anymore because they embarrass me. Bet he is a right wing tea party member. This isn't Christ like according to my bible. I guess I am spiritual.
Further adding injury to insult, the pastor called and wanted everyone fired – from servers to managers. But she did do an interview and "apologize" for the remark AFTER she made sure the server was fired. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/tipping-pa…
To me, the most telling portion of that interview is this:
“My heart is really broken,” said the 37-year-old Bell. “I’ve brought embarrassment to my church and ministry.”
I read that statement as "look how bad things are for me!" How about the poor girl who lost her job? No compassion or pleas for her to be restored? Sad.

What a witness for Christ.
This makes me rage.
Typical Christian.
Sounds like someone is angry about tithing.

I think you miss the point. A tip is voluntary not mandatory,

Totally infuriating.
Relevant to this topic, I highly recommend Tim Keller's Generous Justice: How God's Grace Make Us Just.

Now I'm really torqued over this.
