I’ll admit, anytime something happens on a national stage, like a presidential inauguration I breath a sigh of relief when it’s over and nothing bad happens.
There was a blonde Secret Service agent that kept getting my attention.
I got a kick out of CBS’s Scott Pelley’s comments after Beyonce singing of the national anthem, “Not at all sure that Beyonce needed the microphone. I’m sure they probably could have heard her all the way down to the Lincoln Memorial without it. A beautiful rendition.”
So Beyonce gets to sing the national anthem at the inauguration in January and perform at the Super Bowl in February. That’s a heck of a way to start the year.
It’s a macabre thought, but as I watch Obama walk across the floor of the Capitol rotunda floor after the inaugural luncheon, I couldn’t help but think that one day, hopefully many decades from now, but one day he will lay in state in that exact same spot. Combine that with that last look he took of the crowd, it’s like he thinks he won’t make any future inaugurations.
To something more uplifting, I still get a kick out of this picture from the previous inauguration.
I was looking at GoogleMaps to get a better idea about Washington D.C. and I’m not sure how current the satellite image is, but it shows the inauguration stage being built for yesterday’s event or perhaps taken down or being assembled for a previous inauguration.

Strangely, when I saw the honored guests walking down steep flights of stairs, especially women in their heels, without using the handrails I tensed up at the thought of them tripping and starting off a cascade.

Given his second term ambitions on preventing violence [i.e. forms of gun regulation] and working on climate change, I really worry about his personal safety.
As do I. But, his courage is how we should all strive and start to speak up against the extremists (on both sides). Maybe it's the middle that's too scared.
I think his comments were more along the lines of this is his last term, not because of any safety concerns.
Scott Pelley is by far my favorite network anchor. He's still the same guy he was when he worked at WFAA. No ego, no pomp. Just a very grounded and genuine all-around good guy. That is very rare in broadcasters.
I didn't get to watch any of the Inauguration. Was busy bouncing down I-49 heading to New Iberia.
I was thinking myself as I watched the inauguration (after the fact) that the security staff must be on high alert. All our key officials, past and present, are gathered in a very small space – the most senior members of the judicial, legislative and executive branches.
I also thought his last gaze back was moving. Perhaps one of his daughters will move into public service.

Well said, Stefanie.
