    Just finished a new book by a famed British astrophysicist. While not a long book, the author goes through, with painstaking detail, everything we know about star and planet formation, which is actually quite a bit. Our galaxy has as many as a trillion stars. Many of those stars undoubtedly have planets and some of those planets may have life. But, the professor explains, because the earth is so unique in its formation and history, we are most likely the only planet in the entire galaxy with intelligent life. Since the galaxy is approximately 50,000 light years across, for our purposes, we can consider ourselves the only intelligent life in the universe. Bad news for the Federation and Captain Kirk
