Bag of Randomness

  • I heard an interesting conversation on the radio yesterday.  George Washington (April 30, 1789 – March 4, 1797) and Julius Caesar (July 100 BC – 15 March 44 BC), who lived about two-thousand-years apart, had the same mode of transportation.  In the last two-hundred-years, we’ve gone from locomotives, to automobiles, planes, jets, helicopters, Segways, and devices to take us to space.
  • Seminaries are being invaded by baby-boomers
  • Reagan the dog rescues roadside kittens – There’s a political joke there somewhere, but I wasn’t creative enough to come up with one.
  • I may have to eat my words about RGIII.  StiffArmTrophey.com has a knack for predicting the Heisman winners, and he’s ranked on top.
  • I’m glad to hear the Boise State football coach come out and basically say the whole BCS system sucks.
  • Even though Dallas doesn’t have a baseball team, the MLB Winter Meetings like to take place at the Hilton Anatole.
  • I use to work for Fidelity Investments and they use to throw their holiday party at that hotel.  I attended my first year and one of my friends was, well, propositioned.
  • Fidelity Investments has a large DFW presence, so much so, spouses were never allowed to the holiday party because it would cost too much since it was already free to employees.  I always thought the open bar and the party atmosphere with nothing but coworkers was just one big HR issue waiting to happen.  They use to also rent out Six Flags and you could bring your family, and I always thought that was a better deal than a party.
  • When I contracted at Southwest Airlines I think each department was responsible for their own holiday party and there was a fee to attend.
  • Interesting Cowboys stat . . . In his two seasons, Dez Bryant has only one 100-yard game.  It came against the Giants last year on just three receptions.
  • I have a feeling the Giants are going to start playing some very good football.
  • Deion Sanders starts a charter school
  • I meant to scan a letter I received from my alma mater last month but I keep forgetting to.  It’s a letter from the mens basketball coach addressing me as a former player and asking me to donate money.  Funny thing, and I didn’t even drink in college, but I didn’t play college sports other than intramurals.
  • I was part of two intramural championship teams, football and bowling.
  • Bowling with with my roommate and the namesake of my child.
  • Our football team’s name was “Ditka’s Kids” and we carried a picture of Ditka to each game so he could watch over us.
  • Last night’s HIMYM was a little sad last night.

I was a bit surprised by RG3's comments after the Baylor-Texas game because they seemed a bit out of character. I've followed him all season, and until that point he's always come across as humble and very team-focused. He seems to truly love Baylor and his teammates and wants to share all the credit with them. That's why he said he thought Baylor – not RG3 – had won its first Heisman. It sounded weird, especially if you hadn't heard from him previously, but he claims to view the Heisman as a team award. Baylor Nation is going to FLIP OUT if he wins on Saturday. And I think he will, and should.

Very interesting stat on Dez Bryant. The television commentators love to promote him. The TV analysts also love to tout the greatness of Rob Ryan regardless of how well the defense is playing. They devote more camera-time to Ryan than Garrett. Sometimes it pays off to be a colorful and controversial character.
