Bag of Randomness

  • A Finish publication (their third largest actually) has now mentioned my Rob Ryan observation.  Their link generated about 14,600 unique visitors to this little blog.  I had no idea the Fins were fans of the NFL.
  • Speaking of Rob Ryan, you can now follow him on Twitter.  The account isn’t verified, but D Magazine says it’s his account.
  • Former Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson is surprisingly active on Twitter.
  • I recently discovered that Disney Land in California and Disney World in Florida are both located in counties named Orange County.
  • Is it just me, or is this Gov Good Hair ad a bit on the dramatic side.  (hat-tip liberallylean.com)
  • Wife Swap has taken it to the next level with Celebrity Wife Swap, and surprisingly disgraced pastor Teg Haggard is swapping with Gary Busey.  I didn’t know that Busey is a born-again Christian and part of the Promise Keepers.
  • Jon Stewart had an interesting question when speaking to Gov Mitch Daniels last night.  “The Republicans are doing everything they can to protect the wealthy, the job creators, through policy and rhetoric.  If they are the job creators, and why are they not creating when tax cuts were extended?” It was something close to that, but it made me ponder for a while.
  • The particular highlight of the interview was when Stewart called him on his “language of unity.”
  • The band REM broke up, apparently they were a bigger deal than I thought.
  • What happens when you combine the Batman and Darth Vader.
  • A bald penguin
  • Bleed Into One: The Story of Christian Rock – Official Trailer – You see bits and pieces of U2 in the trailer.
  • Do you need a bit of a time-waster and a bit of a pick-me-up?  Here’s the cure: DrawAStickman.com.  I was surprised when it discovered my mistakes, and of all the links I post today, this is the one you should click.
  • I’m always a bit disappointed when I see what the inside of the United Nations assembly area.  It’s just not visually appealing, especially when you see all that tile behind the podium.
  • I’ve been on a Wendy’s kick as of late.
  • I’m going to check out CBS’s new show called Person of Interest.  But when I watch the commercials, the first thought that goes through my mind is “Why is Jesus walking with Ben Linus from LOST on the streets of New York?”

REM: Love them, hate them or just plain have ignored them. They were important culturally because they rid the world of the stereotype of Southern U.S. bands all sounding like Lynyrd Skynyrd or Charlie Daniels Band. Kinda like how Nirvana wiped out L.A. "hair bands" in the early 90's. Their first single, Radio Free Europe was fresh to the ears in the early 80's. Peter Buck was an influence to many guitarists over the years. I lost interest in them a long time ago but still kept track of what they were up to.
