Bag of Randomness

  • Yesterday WifeGeeding cooked a squash casserole, but before placing it in the oven, she accidentally left the plastic food wrap on.  The plastic melted into the food, and weren’t aware of this until after our meal when cleaning dishes and noticed melted plastic wrap on the sides of the container.  This resulted in my second call to poison control this year, and I was told it was nontoxic and we should be OK.  I did a lot of checking on the web, and really couldn’t find anything.  Hopefully we’ll still be alive after this post.
  • In case you are wondering, I do most of the cooking in the house, and I think this will only encourage me to continue to do so.  But I’m left wondering if this was part of some ploy by WifeGeeding to keep her out of the kitchen.
  • HBO has ordered a pilot that is basically Entourage but focused on a young Mike Tyson.  That sounds pretty promising.
  • Chad Ochocinco really likes aquariums.  The one that he sleeps under is quite interesting.
  • I’m not sure what to think of the whole fiasco with President Obama requesting to speak to a joint session of Congress on Sept 7 (which got moved back a day), but I think the drama of it is a little overblown.  My take is that it was poorly executed/planned by the White House, not so much because of the Republican presidential debate that was schedule to take place at the same time, but because of the reasons Speaker Boehner stated in his letter.  But at the same time, I don’t think a president has every been denied or ask to move the date of his requested time to speak to a joint session of Congress, and if they really wanted to make it work, I think they could make it work.
  • So I guess Obama is the first president to be denied a requested date to speak to a joint session in Congress and the first to have “You Lie!” yelled at him during such an occasion.  Off hand, this president doesn’t seem like he gets a lot of respect, but then again, he is the first Muslim president.  Oh, and the first to be born of Nazi Taliban parents in Kenya.
  • I bet the folks at NBC and the NFL aren’t happy with the timing of the speech.
  • I mentioned the other day that former WFAA reporter Bert Lozano was in critical condition after a massive heart attack, at the age of 42.  Well, he died, and that’s just sad and scary considering he appeared to be fit and healthy.
  • Who knew Keaunu was such a nice guy?  Here’s a tidbit regarding The Matrix: Reeves handed over his valuable profit-sharing points to the franchise’s special-effects and costume-design team.
  • Willie Nelson covers Coldplay and it’s actually pretty good.
  • A televangelist is starting to make Facebook posts in tongues.
  • Dallas Cowboy Felix Jones had an interesting workout routine this off season, gymnastics.
  • I’ve always liked Slow Dancing with Willie Nelson and U2.  It’s just a beautiful piece that is a bit haunting.
  • Russia recently gave approval for a tunnel to Alaska under the Bering Strait. I thought Palin was keeping an eye on Putin making sure he doesn’t rear head?
  • A Cliff’s Notes version of Gov Good Hair’s book Fed Up!.
  • Is it getting better, or do you feel the same?

I am pretty sure that even Scalia would rule the plastic-wrap covered food as cruel and unusual.

How will Chad Ochocinco ever be able to move?

Oh, the Obama speech. I think the Republican party knew that spot was prime for a president to want (it's immediately after they return to congress…a date they know for a long time in advance). I know they booked that debate some time ago but I doubt they didn't look at a calendar and see they were creating a possible conflict. Come on – it makes sense a president would want to meet at the start of a session with everyone to provide a path. Either way, the fact Obama changed and such a huge deal was made of it (vs. seeing it as a 'compromise') only tells me one thing…we despise the politics we love.

And, Geeding…Muslim president? Nazi Taliban parents? Whoa. I think you were kidding. I hope.

"it makes sense a president would want to meet at the start of a session with everyone to provide a path."

This is only true if the President has a path to provide.

I think Obama knew the new spot is prime for an NFL season opener. I know he only change the date recently but I doubt he didn't look at a calendar and see he was creating a possible conflict. Come on – it makes sense a president would want to disrupt the NFL season opener. It represents the work hard for success, love your country, capitalism that he's been battling since he took office.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I feel it's getting better.

    Are you talking to me?

Is this an " in general" question? If so, I never thought when I was growing up that I would be alive to witness an era of global climate change. If climate change is as drastic as they are predicting, it overrides all of our other problems combined.
