Bag of Randomness

  • The city of New Orleans sure does know how to open up an NFL season.
  • The Thursday night NFL Kickoff started back in 2002 in NY, then in Washington, and every year after has been in the city of the defending Super Bowl champion.
  • I like the way NFL Kickoff promotes the other networks that broadcast their games.
  • I heard three different U2 songs used in the pregame show.
  • Rodney Harrison and Tony Dungy are horrible as football television analysts.
  • Colbie Caillat can sing one heck of a national anthem.
  • I don’t know why Jerry wanted to sign Miles Austin to that big contract so quickly.   I fear that Austin might have had a lucky year, and now that teams have some tape on him, there’s no telling what kind of year he might have for this season.  Jerry wasn’t even this quick to sign Tony Romo making him play part of the next season to prove himself, which he should have made Austin do.  Oh well, this is just me being an armchair GM.
  • I don’t think the Florida pastor behind the Quran burning event is a publicity hound, but I do think he believes what he is doing is a sincere attempt to a stand up for Christianity.  Trust me, I’m not supporting the guy, but I’ve known people like him that are extremist in their views that mean well, but those actions behind the intent are very off base.
  • Not to be outdone, Westboro Baptist Church is not only going to burn the Quran but also the American flag.
  • Somewhat related, the AP released this statement yet they still will show cross burnings and cover Westboro Baptist Church?

“Should the event happen on Saturday, the AP will not distribute images or audio that specifically show Qurans being burned, and will not provide detailed text descriptions of the burning. …

AP policy is not to provide coverage of events that are gratuitously manufactured to provoke and offend….”

  • I unfortunately predict that even if there is no Quran burning tomorrow, numerous similar events will be held.
  • I thought it was interesting that Donald Trump jumped into the mosque near Ground Zero debate wanting to buy the building for 25% more than what the owners paid for it.  Possible win/win?
  • Palin and Beck are appearing in an event on Sept 11 and are stating the date is purely coincidental because it was previously planned a week prior.  I’m not so sure I’m buying that.
  • I trust Eddie Bernice Johnson as far as I can throw her.
  • Time-waster, actually a great time-waster – YouTube Time Machine
  • A fun way to dress up a game room – Atari Wall Decals
  • Something about this kid lip-syncing cracks me up.  It helps to have funny hair and a large forehead.
  • In case you ever wanted to meet Bono and The Edge, bid here.
  • Dallas Cowboys game-day traffic among worst in NFL

Only because I don't like crispy bacon- I prefer it thick and not crispy.

I voted wilty non-crispy bacon, because that is my favorite kind!

The whole "Muslim debate" going on in this country is embarrassing and offensive on many levels.

That lip syncing kid doesn't even know the words to the song!

Went with crispy, which is my favorite!

I guess AP won't post content that would gratuitously offend "non-Christians". Posting WBC shenanigans would be OK with them (AP), one supposes, because it only offends Christians by trying to portray WBC as somehow "representative" of Christianity.

Love the Colbie Caillat, and I also thought she did a good job. Of course, I am biased for the Colbie, having been a big fan of her dad's work, back in the day, as producer of Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. Coincidentally, my daughter (8), spent much of last weekend playing, of her own volition, the SSB on the guitar.
