Computer recreates Jesus’ face for History

News flash: Jesus was five-foot-eight, quite swarthy, not blond and looked nothing like James Caviezel or Willem Dafoe.

Jesus was not movie-star handsome, nor even handsome at all. And he certainly didn’t have blue eyes.

Behold the “real” face of Jesus.

This startling image was painstakingly “lifted” from the Shroud of Turin and reconstructed by computer for the History Channel special, “The Real Face of Jesus,” which airs next week.

How did they do it?

Jesus’ real face was “recreated” by taking the encoded information and the blood on the shroud and then transforming it into a 3D image, Ray Downing, president of Studio Macbeth, told The Post.

Popular Mechanics had an article about some British scientists doing something similar back in 2002, and here’s the result.

Thanks, Keith! I find all these sorts of stories fascinating. The two reconstructions do not look similar to each other but both are closer to the truth than the conventional pictures of Christ that I remember growing up. There was a story about this Shroud of Turin recreation on the ABC Evening News tonight and there will more tomorrow on GMA. While there has been carbon-dating to prove the Shroud is a hoax there is also some scientific evidence showing that the carbon-dating test was not accuate due to contamination of the portion of the cloth that was examined. I can never get enough of stories explaining why the Shroud is authentic and stories explaining why it has to be a fraud

    …Christ…
…the most famous Jew known nowadays and -of course- in the World's history…
…nobody knows about the color of his skin, neither eyes nor hair…
…almost no historical references about him… ….date of birth and death completely forgotten… …the same as the "black holes" far in Universe: nobody can prove anything about his appearance… …at least, physically… …we know about black holes for their effects, and we calculate… …because we do INFERENCES… …sometime mathematical inferences… …but inferences, anyway…
…perhaps this should be the right way to begin to know Christ…

Isaiah 53:2 says that he wasn;t beautiful, attractive and desirable. The purpose was for the people to focus in his divine character and love him for who he is our saviour !aleluya!

That face reminds me of OBL. picture him with an AK47.
Squint a bit and there you have it.
It's all in the eyes of the beholder.
