Bag of Randomness

  • Since I’m finished teaching class for a while, this weekend was spent cleaning and relaxing.  WifeGeeding bought me a book for Valentine’s day that I started to read and I watched plenty of movies.
  • The first movie I watched was Step Brothers. I found the movie to be one of the best comedies that I’ve watched in the past five years, and John C. Reilly’s lines were brilliantly delivered.  Some folks thought the movie was a bit too brash, but it didn’t bother me at all.
  • I also watched It Might Get Loud. This movie is for anyone that enjoys the artistic process of music, and it’s a must for any U2 fan.  Bono may be the face of the band, but the Edge is the soul.
  • Speaking of the Edge, he’s having trouble building a house in Mailbu.
  • Dave Ramsey has always rubbed me the wrong way, but to be honest I have never listened, read, or watched any of his stuff until this weekend when I watched two of his Financial Peace University DVDs.  Since I teach a personal finance course, I wanted to review some of his material before I could make a judgment call, and to see if any of it could be beneficial in the courses I teach.  Well, I think he offers some sound advice, but it’s nothing new or groundbreaking and its stuff you would find in any legitimate financial planning guide you can buy at a bookstore for under twenty dollars.   I’m not one for her personality, and there was a moment or two in the videos where he was basically telling people how to vote, which I didn’t appreciate since I don’t think that’s the forum to bring up politics.  I know there are a lot of Dave Ramsey fans out there, but after reviewing the material I kind of get the feeling he is taking advantage of vulnerable Christians, but that’s just my opinion.  But then again, his course and delivery may just be the program for people that were never exposed to personal financial management, and if it helps people become financially independent, then that’s a good thing.
  • I also watched the movie Moon – science fictions fans will really appreciate this movie and film lovers will appreciate the special effects for a $5 million movie that was shot in only 33 days.
  • I was watching Jon Gruden being interviewed on the NFL Network by the great Steve Sabol who asked the former coach of he could coach one QB from any era in his prime who would it be.  His answer, Roger Staubach, which surprised me.
  • Great Olympic Mustache
  • I’m not much of a hockey fan, but I noticed that the Olympic hockey rink is no longer the international size but that of the NHL size.  I prefer the larger international size as I can see plays develop, but then again, I really don’t know much when it comes to hockey.

  • The new Canon PowerShot SD3500IS has a really cool Smile and Wink Self-Timer.  That’s right, you select either the Wink or Smile setting, and then when someone smiles or winks, the camera takes a picture.
  • The little-told story of how the U.S. government poisoned alcohol during Prohibition with deadly consequences.
  • Kelly Osbourne sure has lost a lot of weight.
  • Who’s crazier, the Joseph Stack, the house burning, plane stealing, IRS attacker, or someone who makes a game of the man and the event?  Or maybe people who are praising Joe Stack as a hero?

One Response to Bag of Randomness

  1. You know, Moon was an awesome movie… and a little creepy in some parts, as well (I dunno why, just thought it was)…
