Bag of Randomness

  • Yesterday WifeGeeding and I decided that it was time for me to pull the trigger and get a new laptop. For me, it’s hard making such a purchase because cognitive dissonance tends to set in but I made sure I did plenty of research and planned on going to several stores just to make sure I got what I wanted.
  • My journey took me to Irving to visit Best Buy and Frys, then to the Plano/Richardson area to visit Micro Center, CompUSA, Best Buy, Costco, and then back to Micro Center again where I purchased a Sony Vaio BPC-F111FX/B.  In all it took about five hours, but right now I’m really happy as I blog away.
  • Priorities for my laptop: ten key, a back lit keyboard, and an HDMI slot.
  • What I didn’t think I would get in a laptop – a Blue-ray player.
  • It’s funny when I start out buying things of this nature, I tend to look for what I only “need” but end up seeing all the bells and whistles and end up purchases something with a lot of “wants.”
  • You may be wondering why I visited two Best Buy stores.  Mainly because when I was in the first Best Buy I ran into an old college friend of mine.  She was more of an acquaintance than a friend, I guess, but she was one of the nicer females I encountered at HSU.  I hate small talk, and I found myself asking those silly questions like if she was married.  Turns out she’s still single, which is hard to believe because she seems like such a great catch – currently she’s an assistant dean and about to finish her PhD and pretty darn attractive.  But she was also shopping or a laptop, and after all the small talk it just felt awkward staying there so decided to head out sooner than I wanted.
  • A lot of the weekend was spent thinking about the days of my teenage years watching Johnny Carson and David Letterman.  I ended up watching the entire Late Shift movie on YouTube, reading an article about the last interview with Carson, and then watching a plethora of clips of Carson and Letterman.  I ran across so many of them that I think I will post many of them a little bit at a time.
  • I also started on our taxes this weekend, when I will actually finish them is another story.
  • Recently I dreamed that I moved back to Mineral Wells to open up an IHOP.
  • Watched some of the Grammy Awards last night, and one thing that has stuck with me was just high much taller Josh Duhamel was than his current movie costar Kristen Bell.  The Internets tell me his 6′ 3″ and she is 5′ 1″.
  • I think the Grammys are more entertaining than the Oscars, but the Oscars seem more majestic.
  • While I was at Micro Center I saw a kid playing Batman on a huge screen and he just could not be any happier.
  • Speaking of kids, well, I guess you gotta go, you gotta go.  Pic (I laughed a little too hard at this.)

  • Steve Jobs doesn’t have nice things to say about Google or Adobe.
  • The Matt Chandler cancer story made the front page of MSNBC.com.  The link to the story is provided in the last sentence, but here’s a screenprint of that page if you are interested, I highlighted the article.

Insert "Should have bought a Macbook" comment here.

  2. Geeding says:

Should there ever be a Macbook with a ten-key, then I would consider it.

However, if that means that buying a Macbook would make me a MacBully or MacSnub, then I shall never buy one.

I know you are trying to be funny, but these "you should get a Mac" jokes get old . . . fast.

I thought the exact same thing. And then I got one… I'm a recovering Mac-Hater
