Sleepy Hollow church: No Halloween-themed weddings

A church made famous by Washington Irving’s short story, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” has rejected a couple’s request to hold a Halloween-themed wedding.

Lisa Panensky and Jim Nieves signed a contract 13 months ago to get married on Halloween at the Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.

Church officials balked at the couple’s plans to wear costumes and include theme music from The Addams Family and The Munsters.

The Rev. Jeff Gargano said he only recently learned of the Halloween theme. He offered instead to marry them in the cemetery of the 17th-century church, but the couple declined.

Teens cited for burger ‘rap’ in drive-thru

Four Utah County teenagers are upset after their trip to an American Fork McDonald’s, where they tried to rap out their order through the drive-thru. They didn’t leave with a Happy Meal; rather they were given a citation by police for disorderly conduct.

I remember during junior high school taking a trip to San Antonio and stopping at a Mcdonald’s in Waco where my friend Jimi sang this song as he ordered.

The ladie behind the register gave him one heck of a go to hell look.

7th-Grader: Obama, Most US Presidents Related

A seventh-grader and her 80-year-old grandfather are allegedly the first people to discover that President Barack Obama is related to all other U.S. presidents except one.

BridgeAnne d’Avignon, who attends Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville, traced that Obama, and all other U.S. presidents except Martin Van Buren, are related to John “Lackland” Plantagenet, a king of England and signer of the Magna Carta.

CakeRental.com

Wedding cakes are the center of any wedding party. The newly wed couples dream about their cake, however the cost of wedding cakes can skyrocket, also the possibility of falling over during transportation, heat and humidity for the outdoor weddings can be a major concern.

We provide a service, where you can rent the beautifully designed centerpiece wedding cake. The main cake is covered with real fondant with the looks and feel of a real cake in every aspect,  however the inside is made of foam and there is small compartment to place a small portion of edible cake for the ceremony.

I actually like this Mario cake, and I think it’s a good concept, but overall I think their prices are a bit high.

Bag of Randomness

  • You’ve heard of the A-Team, but I think this is the a-team.
  • No matter how much they clean the silverware, I don’t think I would ever use these.
  • I heard Cambell Brown make a statement that if the White House is going to accuse FOX News of conservative balance, that it would only be fair for the White House to accuse MSNBC of a liberal bias.  I have never watched MSNBC, but I hear a lot about how far left-leaning many of their shows are – so I think she has a very good point.
  • I don’t think many people care or pay attention to MSNBC, they are small potatoes compared to FOX News.
  • I don’t really have a problem with FOX News being biased.  I just don’t like the false advertisement of “We report, you decide” and “Fair and Balanced.”   They make it appear as if they are unbiased, when in reality they are not, and I feel like they are trying to fool people.  Its as if they are full of reporters pulled from the editorial page.  But that’s just my perception.
  • If there is anyone that can get away with a Kunta Kinte joke, it’s LaVar Burton.
  • I wonder how many of my readers actually get the Kunta Kinte reference.
  • My parents “made” me watch Roots when I was in high school, and I was extremely thankful that they did.  I ended up writing on of my first term papers about the author.
  • Now that’s a periodic table.
  • Today is Halloween at work, and it’s one of the most exciting days of the year, but I won’t be there because I’ll be taking an important road trip I may write about later.  However, a lot of decorations started to go up as shows, performances, activities, interactive walk-throughs, and other things go up.  Here are a few pictures.  Not everything there is scary, there’s a lot of fun and cute stuff as well, but this was what I saw the day before.  Too bad I’m going to miss all the costumes – there are always some very creative ones.

You know, this would have came in really handy for Jerry Jones.  Just listen to Jerry try to pronounce the name Bono, as in Bono of U2.  It gets worst every time he tries to say it.

New England Needs Jesus (But then again, don’t we all)

Dead churches are a familiar story in New England, which recent surveys indicate is now the least religious region in the country. But some see opportunity in a place where America’s Christian faith laid its roots.

“You look at this area and it’s a great area of potential, it’s a great area of need,” said Redeemer Fellowship pastor Chris Bass, a Houston native.

Several Christian denominations see New England as a “mission field” – a term often associated with unchurched, foreign lands. As they evangelize and work to plant new churches, they speak of possibility, but also frustration. The area’s highly educated population is skeptical and often indifferent to their faith .

Notes Left Behind

It started as a parent’s personal journal to their younger daughter Gracie, so she would be able to remember her 6-year-old sister, Elena, who was diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer.

Though her parents didn’t want her to know the severity of her cancer, they feel that she must have known what was happening. The tumor slowly took away her ability to talk.

But Elena was still able to write.

After Elena passed away, her parents discovered that their daughter had left a message behind for them — a lot of messages, actually.

“We started to pull out notes and they would be in between CDs or between books on our bookshelf,” Keith Desserich said.

Then the couple started finding them everywhere.

When pastors’ silent suffering turns tragic

HICKORY, N.C. — What kind of personal pain would cause a 42-year-old pastor to abandon his family, his calling and even life itself? Members of a Baptist church here are asking that question after their pastor committed suicide in his parked car in September.

Those who counsel pastors say Christian culture, especially Southern evangelicalism, creates the perfect environment for depression. Pastors suffer in silence, unwilling or unable to seek help or even talk about it. Sometimes they leave the ministry. Occasionally the result is the unthinkable.

Experts say clergy suicide is a rare outcome to a common problem.

Army allows Sikh to keep beard, turban, uncut hair

The U.S Army has granted a member of a religious minority permission to keep his turban, beard and uncut hair while he serves in the military, the Pentagon and a group representing him said.

Capt. Kamaljit Singh Kalsi, a doctor, is a Sikh, a faith that calls on its adherents not to shave or cut their hair.

Kalsi filed a request in the spring for an accommodation to follow the principles of his religion. This month the Army granted his request, the Sikh Coalition told CNN. The Pentagon public affairs office later confirmed that Kalsi would be allowed to keep his turban, beard and uncut hair.
