Austin Church Allows Pets

AUSTIN (KXAN) – City Community Church is a place where everyone is welcome at Sunday service, including four-legged friends.

The church meets at the La Zona Rosa bar on Fourth Street in Downtown Austin every Sunday morning. It is a heavenly haven for people and their pets.

“That’s part of our philosophy,” said Robby Forsythe, City Community Church Pastor. “We want to be a blessing. Everyone is welcome. We decided people can bring their dogs too.”

The Canine Christ Connection started when church members began handing out snacks and dog treats to joggers and their pets on Sunday mornings. Then those pet owners started asking if they could bring their dogs to service.

Eternal Moonwalk

A Belgian radio station is trying to create the longest moonwalk ever, well, at least virtually.  People send in videos of moonwalks from young and old, and they link together with other videos.  It’s a decent time killer, and it’s neat seeing how creative (and how bad) some folks are with different variations of moonwalks.

The merits of going barefoot

A new book argues that filthy, smelly, unadorned feet is the cutting edge in sports technology. Our own jogger tests its fashionable claims.

United Methodist ads to appear on Times Square

The United Methodist Church is taking its Rethink Church advertising and welcoming campaign to one of the world’s most trafficked locales – New York City’s iconic Times Square.

On July 1, the church began airing spots on the CBS “Super Screen,” a full motion, 26-by-20-foot screen on 42nd Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues. Two 15-second spots per hour will air 18 hours per day through Sept. 30.

“Times Square is an ideal fit for our Rethink Church campaign,” said the Rev. Larry Hollon, chief executive of United Methodist Communications. “You’ll find people of all ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities in Times Square, and we want to tell each of them, ‘There’s a place for you in The United Methodist Church.’”

Rethink Church, the next evolution of The United Methodist Church’s “Open hearts” welcoming and advertising campaign, highlights the many opportunities available within United Methodist churches to engage with the world .

Bag of Randomness

  • So far, I think WifeGeeding is really enjoying her summer.
  • I often wonder what life would be like having over two months off of work.
  • I prefer Taco Bueno over Taco Bell.
  • My allergies have never been so bad in the summer.
  • Lance Armstrong is one of the most entertaining persons to follow on Twitter, especially when Bono shows up out of the blue for breakfast.
  • I’ve only been asked to be part of a wedding party once.  I’ll doubt if I’ll ever get that honor again.
  • It is a busy, busy week at work.
  • I go to the dentist today.  I took pictures of my teeth last night just so I can compare what they will look like after the whitening treatments.
  • I drink so much tea I actually feel embarrassed about my stained teeth.
  • A floor of pennies
  • What It Feels Like… to Be Mauled by a Lion
  • I have no desire to see the movie Bruno.
  • And I never saw Borat.
  • That Michael Jackson memorial service is going to be something else.
  • Supposedly the Jackson family will have a private funeral at a cemetery before going to the Staples Center.  I don’t buy that his body will be left in an open public burial place.  And I have a feeling that information was leaked to the media as a red herring.
  • I’m finally back on a decent workout schedule, and boy oh boy, do I need to work out.
  • WifeGeeding has finally picked a color to paint the bedroom after about a month of debate and about a dozen paint samples.
  • One day, I’m going to finish remodeling our bathroom.  It’s about 90% finished, but there are a few things keeping me from finishing up.
