Jon Rubinstein, the computer engineer credited with building both the iPod and the Palm Pre, has been named chief executive officer of Palm (PALM).
He replaces Ed Colligan, who led the company for 16 years.
Rubinstein, 52, once one of Steve Jobs’ closest advisors, left Apple (AAPL) in 2006 with stock holdings reportedly worth $26 million. He is said to have clashed with Jobs over the wisdom of building the iPhone.
He was recruited as executive chairman to help turn around Palm, once the leader in hand-held personal digital assistants, after the private equity firm Elevation Partners made a significant investment in the company.
The Pre, which Rubinstein introduced in January to great fanfare, is considered the strongest competitor to the iPhone to date.

Somehow I got included in a press release that informed me of the latest Customer Service Hall of Shame and Fame companies.
Here’s the Hall of Shame
#1 AOL
#2 Comcast
#3 Sprint
#4 Capital One
#5 Time Warner Cable
#6 HSBC
#7 Qwest
#8 Abercrombie and Fitch
#9 Bank of America
#10 Citigroup
I did contact Sprint the other day to gripe about my new data plan, but I also complimented them on the excellent customer service I received at the store. All in all, they gave me a considerable credit to my account.
And here’s the Hall of Fame
#1 USAA
#2 Trader Joe’s
#3 Netflix
#4 Amazon
#5 Nordstrom
#6 Publix
#7 Whole Foods
#8 Apple
#9 Costco
#10 Southwest Airlines
I’m proud to be working for one of these companies, and I’m a USAA loyalist to the end. As a matter of fact, I remember when my father was in the hospital, about to die a few months later, and one piece of advice he gave me was to stay loyal to USAA because they won’t disappoint.
I know for sure three of the Hall of Fame members are Texas based, with two of them based in DFW.

Today we bring you a great collection of portraits of the most iconic people throughout history.
Portraits explore the relationship between the subject and the photographer or artist and usually continue to impress the viewer years after they have been created.
The common thread running through all of these portraits is superlative design. Each is a masterpiece in its own right, from the medieval painted portraits right up to the most current photographs.
This collection is arranged in alphabetical order and is by no means complete.

I had trouble getting an image for this post, but you should give Spezify a try.
Basically, when you search for an item a bunch of visual stuff pops up, but there’s not a filter, so be careful.

BERLIN — A dog playing fetch in Germany brought its owner a live U.S. hand grenade from the Second World War.
Police in the western town of Erkrath said yesterday they were called by the dog’s 40-year-old owner who stopped walking her pooch when she recognized the “rusty” object it was carrying was a weapon.
Police summoned a munitions expert Sunday to identify and defuse the grenade.
Grenades and bombs left over from the war are still often found in Germany.
Sometimes whole streets in neighbourhoods are evacuated so that such devices can be safely defused.
