Abortion doc George Tiller gunned down at church

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — The attorney for George Tiller says the late-term abortion provider was shot and killed at his church in Wichita, Kan.

Attorney Dan Monnat says Tiller was shot as he served as an usher during Sunday morning services at Reformation Lutheran Church. Monnat said Tiller’s wife, Jeanne, was in the choir at the time of the shooting.

Cat With Wings

Animal experts have been left baffled by the fluffy white moggy, who was born normal – but began growing wing-shaped appendages on either side of his spine when he was just a year old.

Some experts believe the bony ‘wings’ are in fact a freak mutation – a Siamese twin growing inside the kitty.

Others think the mutation may be genetic, caused by chemicals during his mother’s pregnancy.

Coffee Filter Prom Dress

I like this trend of high schoolers being creative with their prom outfits as opposed to spending an insane amount of cash on a dress that will only be worn once for about five hours.

Who would have thought coffee filters could be used for clothing? Aimee Kick, a senior at Francis Howell North High School, knew she wanted to wear a dress that would not only be elegant and fashionable, but one-of-a-kind at her senior prom. Aimee spends a lot of time at coffee shops in her spare time and has become known as the “the girl with a coffee cup,” which was the inspiration for her dress.

PS22 and Stevie Nicks

Just got word from Stevie Nicks tour manager that she was completely blown away by the PS22 Chorus rendition of her song “Landslide!” He said she asked him to replay 2 times afterwards, crying each time she watched! Talk about humbling!! And the kicker?? She invited the PS22 Chorus to sing the song at Madison Square Garden for the upcoming June 11th Fleetwood Mac show!!

http://ps22chorus.blogspot.com

I usually hear some kind of live version of that song when Stevie sings it, and it starts off with her saying, “I love you, Daddy.” Gets me everytime.

80’s Sax Solos

Someone took the time to actually rank the sax solos of the 80’s.

I realized about 5 years ago that at some point in the 80s, lots of the popular music started incorporating saxophone solos into their songs. Some of them are fine, but most of them are ridiculous to have in the songs. Below, I have attempted to separate the quality and appropriateness of the solos from what I think of the song as a whole (I still really like most of these songs, even the ones with low grades).

Worst Parallel Parking Ever?

It turns out this happened somewhere in a Dutch community, which brings to mind a certain quote from an Austin Powers movie.

Or maybe this pygmy jerboa is cuter?

But then again, so are baby otters.

Bag of Randomness

  • Driving home from work yesterday on I35, I passed a garbage truck that had a flat tire; but, about twenty yards away from it on the access road was a tire store.
  • A friend recently shared his experience with me about a Baptist wedding he attended.  As the couple exchanged vows, the groom “promised to be her leader” and the bride “promised to be her helper.”  I’ve been to many Baptist weddings, but that was the first I’ve ever heard of this.
  • I’m more screwed than the average person should I ever get leukemia.
  • Tory Belleci of Mythbusters is 38 years old?  I thought he was in his late twenties.
  • Blasphemy is against the law in Massachusetts.
  • An infographic that displays which Michael Jackson songs influenced other hit songs.
  • Levi Johnston continues his 15 minutes of fame, this time with a bit of a spread in GQ.
  • My future phone, the Palm Pre, will sync with iTunes.
  • I need a new phone fast, my old one is pretty beaten up and is missing an antennae.
  • I’ve been stuck in the doldrums as of late.
  • The family ate at Le Madeline last night – I don’t envision me and the guys eating there together.
  • Every sci-fi nerd fantasy come true – a Princess Leia Pillow Fight.
  • Dubya spoke yesterday, and I can’t fault the guy for defending his decisions, and appreciate how he isn’t trying to bash his successor.
  • Car for sale, minor pest problem‏
  • My new pastor left a comment on this blog yesterday, so I may have gained a new reader . . . now I wonder how long has he been reading and if I said anything that will come back to haunt me. ;-)
  • I’ve been a DirecTV customer for a while now, and have been pretty pleased with their service.  Yesterday in the mail they sent me a thank-you card for being a loyal customer and gave me three months of Showtime for free starting immediately, I didn’t have to do a thing.
  • I’ve cut my magazine subscription down to just one.  I can find all the material I need to read online, and I’m doing this as a way to try to be more dedicated to books.
  • The sole magazine I still subscribe to is Mental_Floss, which comes out every other month and is a not too intelligent, intelligent read.
  • The government has a website to track stimulus funds called recovery.gov.  However, I was listening to NPR yesterday (I’m still trying to get more cultured and intellectual) and they talked about a Seattle-based company called Onvia that runs recovery.org.   It’s a bit more robust and detailed than the government’s site.  For instance, you can break down what your state, county, and city are using regarding stimulus funds.  I live in Lewisille, TX in Denton county, and found my city isn’t receiving any stimulus funds but our county received $848,898 to replace two bridges.
  • I also found that MotherInLawGeeding’s county is working on three projects worth $47,690,850 in stimulus funds.  And that Tarrant county is the big winner with 37 projects worth $1.326 billion.
  • My new favorite line from the “Most Interesting Man in the World” commercials that had me laughing for a while . . . He once taught a German Shepherd to bark in Spanish.
  • I don’t have any plans this weekend, and I love it when it works out that way.

College Offers Free Laundry

One less excuse for students at Davidson College to go back home:

And they even offer LandryView, which is a genius idea:

LaundryView is an Internet application that allows you to monitor the status of washers and dryers in connected laundry rooms through a Web browser. LaundryView was developed in response to requests for greater control over laundry activities. Since many people tend to do their laundry during similar time periods, it results in busy laundry rooms. LaundryView’s mission is to help you save time by providing information about the current state of laundry room equipment wherever you have access to a browser or e-mail messages.

Bag of Randomness

  • SisterGeeding refers to the Jonas Brothers as the Jaundice Brothers.
  • While driving home from dinner I was flipping through the radio stations and heard old KXAS sports anchor Scott Murray.  I didn’t realize he’s in town, but a quick search on the Google found that he has his own media company that has really annoying music on its website.
  • I always thought his hair and part was a little too thick, my father thought he talked too fast.
  • Betch attitude?  I totally didn’t get that comment from yesterday.
  • Bill Cosby will be in town soon, I would like to go see him, but I don’t have anyone to go with.  WifeGeeding will be with her family on a beach, and I’ll be left to take care of the fur-children.
