Random Lost Thoughts

  • Lots of crazy weather last night, which caused the picture to go out several times, so I didn’t catch the entire episode, but most of it.
  • The evening started off with Obama and his 100 days, and then the 100th episode of Lost.  Now there’s just two episodes left for this season.  It will be interesting to see what kind of cliff-hanger they leave us.  Maybe it will have something to do with hydrogen bomb, if it goes off or not, of who sets it off.  Or maybe it will relate to time travel again, like who changed time, or if they made it back to the future.
  • So Penny and Desmond both survived.
  • Desmond, ”I promised you, Penny…I promised you I’d never leave you again.” Famous last words?
  • Maybe Desmond is one of those that the Island won’t let die?
  • Widmore being Daniel’s daddy didn’t surprise me, but then again, I’ve been watching this show long enough now that I don’t think anything can surprise. But then again again, perhaps Widmore isn’t his biological son, but he just thinks of him as a son.
  • It must be an interesting feeling rearing a child knowing that you will only end up shooting it.
  • Daniel was shot in 1977, so I guess this means she actually had Daniel sometime after shooting the adult Daniel . . . unless he’s already born and just not with his mum.
  • A lot of Daniel’s actions seemed a bit contrived, don’t you think?  Just the way he waved that gun so that the Black Suited Dharma boys would see it and start a fight, and the way he just roamed into the Other’s or Hostiles’ camp.  It’s like he wanted to get shot.
  • Did you notice the Wired magazine on the couch when Widmore vistied Daniel?  This particular issue, per the front cover, is the super powers issue that covers the end of cancer, x-ray vison, invisibility, and . . . . time travel.
  • I’m streching here, but the cancer article starts on page 108 (4+8+15+16+23+42=108).
  • And another interesting connection, JJ Abrams (the co-creater and executive producer of Lost) is a guest editor for the current issue of the magazine.
  • I liked it when Daniel outed Miles as Chang’s child.  Maybe it will spur them on to future conversations?
  • Juliet really didn’t like Sawyer calling Kate “Freckles.”  I am curious how they are going to get out of this jam.
  • Fonzie times . . . lol.

Texas Bible Drill State Final Postponed

From the Baptist General Convention of Texas

Dear Bible Drill Leaders and Participants,

Like most of you, we have been very concerned about the increasing reports of Swine Flu affecting many people throughout Texas, our nation and even worldwide. News reports today informed us that upon the recommendation of the Texas Department of Health, and in consultation with the Texas Education Agency, Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) has suspended all sporting events until May 11.

Due to the extreme health concerns that this creates for all people in Texas, but especially our children and youth, we have made the decision to postpone the State Final for Bible Drill and Speakers’ Tournament due to be hosted at the BGCT Baptist Building in Dallas, this Friday and Saturday, May 1 ‐2.

We are tentatively rescheduling the State Final for Friday and Saturday, May 15 – 16, again hosted at the Baptist Building in Dallas.

Please go to the BGCT web site ‐ www.bgct.org ‐ for updates regarding further information.   If you have additional questions, please feel free to call the BGCT toll free number 888.244.9400.

Sincerely,
Phil Miller
Director, Bible Study/Discipleship

Jarrad Farbs quit his job by creating a playable Super Mario Bros resignation letter

How do you break the news to your coworkers that you’re leaving your job at a major game studio to pursue indie development? With a game, of course.

Jarrad Farbs decided to leave his position as a developer at 2K Australia in order to take up independent game development full-time. But he wanted to let people know about his upcoming departure in a memorable, yet legal and non-horrifying, way.

He stayed up all night working on his resignation, a short, playable Flash game featuring Mario delivering the news along with a very nice farewell message. “Thank you 2K Australia!” the game says at its conclusion. “You gave me a paycheck, an incredible project and a world-class team to learn from. But my princess is in another castle.”

FEMA’s web site yanks coloring book depicting 9/11 terror attack

APRIL 29–The Federal Emergency Management Agency has removed a children’s coloring book from its web site following criticism over its inclusion of drawings of the September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. The coloring book, titled “A Scary Thing Happened,” is geared towards helping kids “cope with disasters,” and was prepared by a Minnesota crisis response team. Until yesterday, the coloring book could be downloaded from the FEMA web site. As seen below, the coloring book’s cover montage includes a drawing of one of the Twin Towers on fire as a plane approaches the second building.

Egypt orders slaughter of all pigs over swine flu

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt began slaughtering the roughly 300,000 pigs in the country Wednesday as a precaution against swine flu even though no cases have been reported here, infuriating farmers who blocked streets and stoned vehicles of Health Ministry workers who came to carry out the government’s order.

Pigs are banned entirely in some Muslim countries including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Libya. However in other parts of the Muslim world, they are often raised by religious minorities who can eat pork.

In Egypt, pigs are raised and consumed mainly by the Christian minority, which some estimates put at 10 percent of the population. Health Ministry spokesman Abdel-Rahman Shaheen estimated there are between 300,000-350,000 pigs in Egypt.

“It has been decided to immediately start slaughtering all the pigs in Egypt using the full capacity of the country’s slaughterhouses,” Health Minister Hatem el-Gabaly told reporters after a Cabinet meeting with President Hosni Mubarak.

Bag of Randomness

  • I had a dream that I won a trip to Australia, the only problem was, I didn’t want to go, but WifeGeeding really, really wanted to go.
  • The StuffChristiansLike blog has an insightful piece about “Why bad things happen to good people.”  I know the topic has been addressed many a time, but this one, for me, had a bit of a different twist.   I think these two paragraphs were my favorite:The question is not “Do we have to fake smile through pain?” I don’t think so. I’ve had friends that have buried their children and seen moms fall to cancer 5 weeks after being diagnosed. There are many, many things in this world that suck and will continue to do so. I would never tell friends who experienced tragedies to turn a frown upside down or whitewash the year my whole life fell apart with instant rainbows and fluffy clouds. The question is not “If God is supposed to work all things out for the good, why is this situation so painful?” It’s His definition of good, not mine, that I must live with. Thankfully, mercifully, beautifully, He doesn’t promise to work things out according to my understanding of “good.” His good will always exceed mine because He can define “good” across the solar system and I can only define it with what I see with my own eyes.

  • I’ve been stuck in the doldrums this week.
  • I found a taker for my U2 tickets.  They are going to a friend that I know is a genuine U2 fan, and someone who has helped me get back up on my feet regarding my faith.
  • Funny thing, but the whole agreeing on a price to sell them was like a Bugs Bunny negotiating mind trick (this link should take you to the 4:33 in a YouTube video), you know, when Bugs gets the other party to change his or her mind.  I start off by telling him that the face value of the two tickets with convenience charges and taxes cost me about $127; and that prices for a similar pair of tickets on StubHub ranged from $248 to $2000 (the tickets get you pretty close to the band).  But since he’s a buddy and a genuine U2 fan, I would sell both of them to him for $210.  His counter-offer, which cracked me up, was $265, $55 more than I asked.  I countered his counter-offer by telling him I would not take anything more than $250 from him.  He replied back with, “Deal!”

U.S. President Gerald Ford being vaccinated for Swine Flu by Dr. William Lukash, 1976

And to think the shot didn’t even help – President Ford only lived an additional 30 years after receiving the vaccination.

Rumor has it that those that include bacon as part of a daily diet may be prone to heart disease, but have built an immunity to the swine flu.

After 100 Days, How’s Dubya?

The Dallas Morning News has a section where users can upload pictures of themselves with the 43rd president.

(Hey Tommy, see, I’m not the only one that calls him Dubya, our and his hometown newspaper does too.  And since you can’t see me, I’m sooooo sticking my tongue out at you.)

This picture taken about a month ago caught my attention – he looks younger and well rested, even refreshed.

Here’s a picture of him right before he left office.  He’s the one on the far left.
