Bag of Randomness

  • WifeGeeding and I decided what to give up for Lent . . . eating out.  For us, this will be a challenge, but a welcome one.  Sorry, Mr President, but we won’t be contributing to the economy for 40 days.  Well, at least to when it comes to dining.
  • Since we plan on not eating out, we decided to eat at Babe’s last night.  If you know the place, it’s easy to overhear conversations since you are so close to one another.  Well, I got to hear one guy talk about how he is already feeling the effects of the Obama tax raises.  I tend to keep up with the news, but as far as I know there haven’t been any tax raises.  But then again, he also talked about how pretty Sarah Palin looked in a bikini at her age.  From my understanding, there isn’t a current picture of her in a bikini, however there was a good photoshop of her that I have a feeling he fell for.
  • Speaking of Palin, I read that she revealed in a new documentary that she felt that the media was on a search and destroy mission.  I can understand how she can feel that way, and I can understand how my Republican friends can feel that way, but I feel like the media would have done the same thing for any “unknown” VP candidate.  She was a dark horse VP candidate and he annoucement came as a surprise, and no one really knew her.  Combine that with the fact that the public was exposed to all the other candidates for the past two years and you basically have two years of getting to know her crammed in a month in a half, so I can totally see how all the attention can seem like a search and destroy.  And besides, she was absolutely fascinating.  The pregnant teenage daughter was something straight out of the movies, and her awkward interviews was only fuel to the fire.
  • I have a feeling several of the big banks will be nationalized soon, there’s no avoiding it unless you want them to fail, and then you will hear the Obama haters come out with the socialism talk.  But the nationalization will only be temporary, probably less then three years, then it’s back to good ol’ capitalism.
  • One of the things I really like about the British way of government is how the Prime Minister has direct dialogue with members of Parliament.  I saw a little bit of this yesterday on the news when Obama held a public question and answer with many Republicans, with McCain asking the first question.  It was as if the Republicans were the press at a presidential press conference.  Obama has had a rough start with the bi-particism, but this was definately a start in the right direction.  In that link that I provided, there’s a video of some of the exchange, and even Texas Congressman Joe Barton makes an appearance, with a Texas tie around his neck to make his home folk proud.
  • I think it’s funny sometimes when people mention something they might like from another country, and hearing the response . . . “If you like it so much then go move over there.”
  • I also saw how the president is reading ten letters sent to him from the public every work day so he can try to stay connected with the American people.  This was something both Reagan and FDR was known to do, and I think it’s a very noble task.
  • The president thinks the deficit can be cut in half by the end of his first term.  As ambitious as that is, that might just come back to haunt him ala “read my lips, no new taxes.”
  • I have not seen one Oscar nominated movie.  The only Oscar nominated performance I saw was that of Heath Ledgers.
  • Usually you see Jack Nicholson at the Oscars, but he was a not show.
  • I hear Hugh Jackman is getting great reviews for hosting the Oscars.  I don’t think he really did much hosting compared to others in the past. For the most part, the Oscars seemed hosted by the presenters.  But I will admit his budget friendly opening was pretty clever.
  • Even though I liked how past winners introduced the nominees, I still kind of missed the small movie clip of their performance.
  • For those that ever wanted to staple your monitor, well, here you go.
  • Dubya has been making some local news as of late.  He was nice enough to donate canned foods to the Boy Scouts as they went door to door and invited them in his house for a while.  He also attended church and went to that hardware store for a visit regarding that job offer of being a greeter.  He bought flashlights, and that made me giggle, WD-40.  I have seen a few pictures of him, and boy, does he look refreshed.
  • Someone sent me a story about a tight-end from a small college that was at the NFL combine.  This guy was one of the top prospects, and during a routine physical at the combine he was told he has a heart ailment and should no longer player football.  Wow, can you imagine?  You just finish playing football through high school and college, you know you are going to get drafted by an NFL team and fulfill a dream and get a pretty decent paycheck, and then out of the blue they tell you that your ticker ain’t right.

  • I’m trying to find more time to read, but my free time is spent prepping for class, working out, and blogging.
  • I need to stop by Costco after work.  We need to stock up on groceries if we aren’t going to eat out.
  • I really like me new jeans, I went with some Silvertabs from Levis.
  • But I’m not use to this worn discoloration look that is popular.
  • Maybe next time I’ll go with some mom-jeans.

Love that Obama will read the letters….but will someone screen or pick the ones he reads? just wondering….
It’s “B”….yep….cause otherwise you can’t do the cute triangle on the top!

And speaking of Congressman Joe Barton, I loved the way President Obama put him in his squalid place yesterday after the summit. The president is so smart.

It’s B so that the pattern shows.

Paula Dean: I’m surprised the American Heart Association hasn’t put a contract out on that woman yet. She doesn’t cook anything unless it has a stick of butter, half a jar of Mayo, and a cup of cream.
Sarah Palin: I always felt she brought her problems on herself. Initially her handlers shut her off from press interviewers so that her views and background became more mysterious. Once she was interviewed her performance was terrible, she came across as uninformed and unprepared. She was once again shielded from interviews, which made it appear she had something to hide or was afraid to face the media. If she was running for mayor, the media may have seemed unfair but for Vice President, the public had a need to know as much about her as soon as possible.
Bank Bailouts: What is confusing to me is that the government is pumping money into the economy as fast as it can to stimulate growth and yet is now talking about extreme budget cutting to get the National Debt under control.
British System: It always looks like a small town hall meeting when the Prime Minister meets with Parliament. He has to be quick on his feet the when he faces his opposition and the feedback is instantaneous. The party out of power doesn’t need to circulate through the media their objections to the ruling party’s plans; they debate it directly with the Prime Minister.
