VICTORIA, British Columbia – A Canadian man is recovering in the hospital after a black bear swam across a river, climbed onto a dock and then jumped on a boat and attacked him.
Conservation officer Gord Hitchcock said Wednesday the 52-year-old man was fishing at a marina in a tiny coastal community off Canada’s Pacific coast when the bear mauled him.
Hitchcock says people tried to help the man using hooked poles, knives and a hammer to pull the bear off of him.
Fire Chief Dan Tennant said he’s never heard of such an incident in an area where the bears are normally docile.
Tennant said the man’s friends managed to kill the bear.
The unidentified man has been airlifted to a Victoria hospital, where he is recovering from cuts to his arm and upper body.

Footed pajamas make you feel good when you wear it. These footed pajamas can be worn in nights and will make you really comfortable. Our footed pajamas are generously cut from soft, double-napped blankets. They’re designed with a roomy, comfortable hip and a long body. Footed pajamas will give you years of cozy comfort. They are long lasting.
Footed pajamas with plastic soles can be good for two reasons: they keep little toes warm, and they help prevent slipping and falling. Footed pajamas are too cute for adults.

Michigan Republicans plan to foreclose African American voters
The chairman of the Republican Party in Macomb County Michigan, a key swing county in a key swing state, is planning to use a list of foreclosed homes to block people from voting in the upcoming election as part of the state GOP’s effort to challenge some voters on Election Day.
“We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren’t voting from those addresses,†party chairman James Carabelli told Michigan Messenger in a telephone interview earlier this week. He said the local party wanted to make sure that proper electoral procedures were followed.

NEWARK, N.J. – The New York Giants and New York Jets are considering awarding naming rights for their new stadium to a German company that once had ties to the Nazis.
Officials from German-based Allianz — one of the world’s largest insurance firms — said that they’ve atoned for past history and should not be judged by the company’s World War II record.
Allianz once insured Nazi death camps and refused to pay life insurance claims to its Jewish clients — instead granting the proceeds to the Nazis.
The naming rights negotiations between Allianz and the Giants and Jets were first reported by The New York Times, which estimates the potential price tag could reach $20 million to $30 million a year.

IRVING, Texas: Tony Romo: NFL star, playboy quarterback and, apparently, a Good Samaritan handy with an air compressor.
A couple says Romo helped them patch a flat tire on the side of a busy street last weekend after the Dallas Cowboys star returned home from a season-opening win over the Cleveland Browns.
Bill and Sharon White told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that at least 100 drivers ignored their broken-down Mercury before someone stopped late Sunday. Sharon White said a well-dressed man “with something strange on his chin” walked up and offered a hand.
Romo needed 13 stitches after his chin was split open in the 28-10 win over the Browns. He bent down and helped the Whites get their faulty air compressor to fill up the tire.
Sharon White said she asked twice before Romo confirmed her suspicions about the do-gooder’s identity.
“I did something no 50-year-old woman should be doing, but I screamed real loud, and then jumped up and hugged him,” Sharon White told the newspaper in Thursday’s editions.
Bill White had a different reaction.
“Don’t tell me how you guys did,” he said he told Romo. “I’m going home to watch it.”
