I’m almost positive that it is a mirror.
I’ve played flight simulators that specific jets did have rearview mirrors in them.
That is the WSO or Weapon Systems Officer, “Goose” from Top Gun. Further inspection shows he is from Strike Fighter Squadron Two. .
Interesting story about the “Spider” Webb story. I won’t spoil it for you but kinda neat where he ends up.
