Farmer Describes Cutting Off Own Arm

A Kershaw County, S.C. farmer has recovered enough to recount how he had to cut off his own arm to save his life.

Sampson Parker talked to WIS reporter Dan Tordjman, and explained that after he got his hand stuck in a piece of farm equipment and a fire broke out around him, he had no choice.

“If I was going to die here, I was going to put up a fight, and that’s basically what I did,” says Sampson Parker.

Full Article

This part caught my attention:

With his right hand still caught in the machine, Parker used his left hand to try to fight back the fire that was spreading in the grass around him.

“My skin was melting. It was dripping off my arm like plastic, plastic melting. I realized I was in trouble,” he said. Parker said he grabbed his knife again.

“And I just jammed it into my arm, just like that, just started cutting away from the bone — just dropped,” he said.

Last night’s Bible question to the GOP candidates

But what did the guy that asked the question think of the answers?  Well, he wasn’t happy.

Answer to his Bible question disappoint Dallas man

I’m sure Pat Robertson wasn’t happy with Rudy’s answer, but I’m sure the Christian voter appreciated Huckabee’s answer.  He’s gaining momentum.

I was not aware

ap_turnersranches.gifTed Turner is the largest private landowner in the U.S.

Turner has amassed 2 million acres over the past two decades to become the largest private landowner in the United States. He owns land in at least nine states, with most of his holdings in New Mexico, Nebraska, Montana and South Dakota, and is restoring buffalo, cutthroat trout, wolves, black-footed ferrets and other flora and fauna that filled the Plains before the West was won.

He also owns a the most buffalo:

Turner owns the largest buffalo herd in the country, 45,000 strong, many of them on the 425,000 acres he owns in Nebraska.

What Happens Behind the Scenes

From individuals to countries, we often want to persuade others to perceive things a certain way or to think a certain way. There are many standard techniques for doing this. Below are some of them. You can use these techniques to do your own persuading, and you can also use this knowledge to keep yourself from being fooled.

Watch 101 Classic Christmas Videos Online

christmas_64_1_med.jpgAhh Christmas. The tree, the stockings, the mistletoe and – of course – the holiday television programming.

Some of my fondest Christmas memories were spent in front a of television watching such classics as the animated Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or one of the myriad versions of Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’.

So without further ado, I am presenting you with my big, big list of holiday specials. I’ve tried to categorize the list into subsections to make it a little more bearable and consumable. The list is in no particular order, though the first section, ‘essentials’, are (in my humble opinion) the cream of the crop. I should also note that I’ve only included programs for which I was able to find online videos so you’ll notice some glaring omissions (like ‘A Christmas Story’ and ‘Miracle on 34th Street).

In any event, here’s wishing you a great Christmas. Now sit back and dig into some of the best Christmas content on the web…

There’s even a nice list of Christmas commercials.  And yes, Jimi, the Garfield Christmas Special is a part of this list.

Is it Christmas?

NYPD Decoy Operations

Shopping bags, backpacks and purses were left around the subway system, then stealthily watched by undercover officers. They arrested anyone who took the items and walked past a police officer in uniform without reporting the discovery.

Now, a new version of the operation has started to catch people in public places outside the subways, and at much higher stakes, Criminal Court records show.

Unlike the initial program, in which the props were worth at most a few hundred dollars, the bags are now salted with real American Express cards, issued under pseudonyms to the Police Department.

Because the theft of a credit card is grand larceny, a Class E felony, those convicted could face sentences of up to four years. The charges in the first round of Operation Lucky Bag were nearly all petty larceny, a misdemeanor, with a maximum penalty of one year in jail.

My instant boob job from 36A to 36DD – and the effect it had on men (and women)

For most of my life, I’d never given a lot of thought to the contents of my bra. I suppose I am on the small side of normal – I am a 36A, but might go up to a 36B depending on the manufacturer.

While I’ve never been one of those completely flat-chested girls who can run around all day wearing a vest and no bra, my breasts are not my defining feature.

But would I want them to be? Well, like it or not, this past week they were – in the name of journalistic investigation.
