A bit more on the plastic snow

I’ve been making several posts about a ski resort that will be built in North Texas that will use fake snow called Snowflex.  Wikipedia has an entry about it here.  The entry states that Snowflex has been installed at around 20 slope operations.  Oh, and here’s Snowflex’s website.

This project in Texas is still a pipe dream. They have succeeded in getting a lot of publicity for the project which is still trying to get funding. The publicity campaign is a way for them to gain funding. The project is a LONG way from breaking ground.

Snowflex is a cool surface. I've skied on it. It is much slower than snow yet it is much less grippy than snow. So, in effect it skis like very slow ice. One nice thing is that it has three inches of rubber padding so falls on it are not bad at all.

I noticed in the Star Telegram a few days ago that we will be having an ice skating rink in North Richland Hills made out of synthetic ice. I forgot the name of the material but I can’t wait to give it a go.
